Freezing inactive mailboxes

If you haven't used your mailbox for over 24 months, Yandex reserves the right to freeze it (clause 2.3 of the User Agreement). This means that you won't be able to receive new messages or access your mailbox from mail clients. Your old emails will be stored in your frozen mailbox for 6 months, after which they'll be permanently deleted along with the address book and all your mailbox settings.

Note. Yandex will warn you about the scheduled actions before the mailbox is frozen. You'll receive notifications of the upcoming freeze 30 days and 10 days before the event.

To prevent freezing, you just need to log in to your mailbox. If you lost access to your Yandex account or have other problems logging in, see the tips in Help for Yandex ID to restore access.

What to do if your mailbox is frozen

For 6 months from the time your mailbox is frozen, you can unfreeze it without losing the contents, settings, and address book:

  1. Click Yes, unfreeze. This will open your unfrozen mailbox, where Yandex will restore all emails and settings.

If you don't unfreeze your mailbox within 6 months, it will be automatically deleted forever.

You can delete your frozen mailbox without waiting for it to be permanently deleted:

  1. Click No, delete forever.
  2. Confirm your choice by clicking Delete. The mailbox will be deleted, and you'll be redirected to the Yandex ID page.
Note. Only your mailbox and its contents are deleted. Your Yandex account remains active. You can continue using other Yandex services. If you want to use Yandex Mail again, log in to your account. You'll see a new mailbox with the old address.
