# Widgets

A _widget_ is a small block on your device home screen that gives you quick access to Yandex services, the weather forecast, and other information.

## Widget types

   1. Turn on automatic location detection or select a city manually.

   You can choose services for the widget:

   1. Open the Yandex app.
   1. On the home screen, tap ![](../_assets/profile-icon.png) (profile picture).
   1. Open **App settings** → **Widgets**.
   1. Place the service that you use most often in **Slot 1** (for example, Yandex Weather). This widget will be shown first. Fill the remaining slots with other services.

   Yandex Search, date, and weather. You can choose a theme: light, dark, or system.

   Detailed weather forecast for your region. You can choose forecast by days or hours and turn the precipitation map on or off.

   1. Tap and hold the widget.
   1. In the window that opens, tap **Edit widget**.
   1. Set the city manually (by default, it's determined automatically), enable forecast by days or hours, enable the precipitation map.

   Hourly weather forecast and precipitation. You can choose the format:

   - 1 x 1 — current weather and forecast for the morning, day, and evening (half-screen width).
   - 4 x 1 — Hourly forecast (fullscreen width).

   The city is automatically detected by default. To change it:

   1. Tap and hold the widget.
   1. In the window that opens, tap **Edit widget** → **City**.
   1. Start typing the name of the city in the search bar and select it from the list.

   A button that launches Yandex Browser. No settings.

## Add a widget to the screen

   1. On your device home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
   1. Tap **Widgets**.
   1. In the widget list, select **Yandex**.
   1. Choose a Yandex widget that you like in the thumbnail list and drag it to a free area on the screen.

      1. On your device home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
      1. In the upper-right corner, tap ![](../_assets/widget-ios-add.png) and select **Yandex** in the widget list.
      1. Select a Yandex widget that you like from the thumbnail list and tap **Add Widget**.

   - On the lock screen

      1. On the lock screen, tap and hold empty space anywhere on the screen.
      1. At the bottom of the screen, tap **Configure**.
      1. Tap the area above or below the clock to add the widget there.
      1. Select **Yandex**.
      1. Select a widget by swiping left and right.
      1. Tap the widget you want to add.

## Remove a widget from the screen {#delete}

   1. Tap **Delete**.
   1. Confirm deletion.

   - Smartphone

      1. Tap and hold the widget.

      1. Confirm deletion.

   - Tablet

      1. On your device's home screen, tap **Edit**.
      1. Next to the widget you want to delete, tap ![](../_assets/delete-icon.png) and confirm the deletion.
      1. Click **Finish**.

## Why do I have multiple identical widgets? {#many}

Widgets are built into many Yandex mobile apps, for example,  Yandex Disk, Yandex Maps, Yandex Navigator, and Yandex Keyboard. For this reason, several identical widgets may be present on the device at the same time.

You can [remove](#delete) the widgets that you don't want.


## Why isn't a widget updated? {#not-update}

Here are the most common reasons why widgets don't show updated information:

Check if your device is connected to the internet.

Power saving mode is only available on Android devices.

[Power saving](https://yandex.com/support/m-yandex/en/settings/energy.md) mode prevents widgets from updating in background mode.

Open your device settings and make sure that this mode is off or turn it off. Power saving mode may also turn on automatically when your device battery is low.

For the widget to update properly, you need to grant it a permission to run in the background. To do this:

1. Open device settings and select **Apps** → **Yandex** → **Advanced** → **Battery**.
1. On a mobile device, make sure there are no restrictions on background activity. On a tablet, turn on **Allow background activity**.
