# Read books
You can use Yandex app to read books. Download a book, choose your convenient mode, and start reading.

## Add a book to the library {#download-book}

To make the function available, [update](https://yandex.com/support/m-yandex/en/app/install.md#toupdate) the app.

To open your library, tap  on the top panel of the home screen and select **Reader**.
Add a book:

- Find a new book on Yandex
To find a book, use the [SmartBox](https://yandex.com/support/m-yandex/en/app/search.md#search) or search in the Reader  → **Search Yandex**.
After you follow the link to download the file, it's downloaded and added to the **All books** section.
You can open the book immediately after that. To do this, tap **Read** on the panel at the bottom of the screen.

1. Open the notification bar (to open the bar, swipe down from the top of your smartphone screen).
1. Tap the file name. After opening the file, a notification about it will not be displayed in the bar.

- Upload from device
1. Tap  → **Upload from device**.
1. Select the file on your device.
The book will be added to the **All books** section.

## Open {#open-book}

- Select a book to read

On the home screen, tap  on the top panel and select **Reader**.
1. In **All books**, tap the book to start reading.
- Continue reading
1.
On the home screen, tap  on the top panel and select **Reader**.
1. Under **Now reading**, tap the book you want to read. This will open the page where you left off.
Every book has a  icon indicating the percentage that you've read.

1. Tap and hold the book.
1. In the menu that appears, tap **Open with...**
1. Select a reading app from the list.

## Read {#read-book}
To go to the next page, tap the right edge of the screen. To go to the previous page, tap the left edge.
To open settings, tap the center of the screen. In settings mode, you can:
-  — Close the book.
-  — Open the table of contents. To go to a specific chapter, tap its title.
-  — Change font size and margins. To change the font size, tap  or . Adjust the text width on the screen by tapping one of the  icons.
-  — [Listen](#read-aloud) to the book.
-  — Switch to the dark theme. To switch back to the light theme, tap .
- **My books**: Open the library.
- Navigation slider: Jump to the page you need. At the bottom of the screen, drag the slider left or right.
## Listen {#read-aloud}
You can also listen to books in the app. You can choose between a female or male voice. To listen to a book:
#### Method 1

On the home screen, tap  on the top panel and select **Reader**.

Tap and hold the book.
1. In the menu that opens, tap **Read aloud**.
#### Method 2
1. Open a book.
1. Tap the center of the screen.
1. Select .
While listening, you can control the narration on the bottom panel:
-  — Pause.
-  — Continue reading.
-  — 10 seconds back.
-  — 10 seconds forward.
-  — Select reading speed and voice. If the normal speed doesn't feel right, select fast or very fast reading. You can also select a female or male reader here.
-  — Turn off reading. To make the icon appear, first tap .
## Remove {#delete-book}

If you remove a book from the library on your Android device, it remains available in your device's memory.

1. In the menu that appears, select **Remove**.
