Widgets

Widgets are small blocks you can use to access Yandex services, weather forecast, and other information quickly from your device's Home screen.

Types of widgets

Yandex Search (half-screen)

A search bar with Alice that takes up half of the width of the screen.

To change the widget color scheme:

  1. Tap  (profile picture) on the Home screen.
  2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Widget 2 x 1.
  3. Choose a color theme.
Yandex Search (full screen width)

  2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Widget 2 x 1.
  3. Choose a color theme.

You can add a search bar to the notification bar or the device's lock screen. For installation and configuration instructions, see Search bar.

Yandex Weather

The widget shows the temperature outside and the daily weather forecast broken down by hour.

Set up the widget
Change location

  1. Place the widget on the Home screen.

  2. Open the widget settings:

    In the Yandex app
    1. Tap  (profile picture) on the Home screen.
    2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Yandex Weather.
    On the Home screen

    Under the widget, tap Settings.

  3. Enable automatic location detection or manually select a city.

Change the background

  1. Place the widget on the Home screen.

  2. Open the widget settings:

    In the «Yandex» app
    1. Tap  (profile picture) on the Home screen.
    2. Tap App settings → Widgets → Widget settings → Yandex Weather.
    On the Home screen

    Under the widget, tap Settings.

  3. Choose the background you like. With a dark or light background, you can adjust the widget opacity.

You can change the widget background and your location.

Yandex Search (large)

Yandex search, battery charge, date, time, temperature outside, and traffic information.

Yandex Games

Quick access to Yandex Games.

Set up the widget

You can choose the services for the widget:

  1. Open the Yandex app.
  2. Tap  (profile picture) on the Home screen.
  3. Open App settings → Widgets.
  4. Assign the service you use most often to Slot 1 (for example, Yandex Weather). This widget will display first. Add services for each slot.
Yandex Search

Yandex Search, date, and weather. You can customize the theme: light, dark, or system.

Weather (large)

Detailed weather forecast for your region. You can view daily or hourly forecasts, as well as enable or disable the weather radar.

Set up the widget
  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. In the window that opens, tap Edit widget.
  3. Manually specify the city (determined automatically by default), toggle daily or hourly forecasts, enable the weather radar.
QR code for cafes and restaurants

A vaccine certificate QR code (for restaurants and cafes that request it).

Weather (1x1 or 4x1)

Hourly weather forecast, precipitation. There are several formats:

  • 1x1: Current weather and the morning/afternoon/evening breakdown, half of the width of the screen.
  • 4x1: Hourly forecast, full width of the screen.

By default, the city is determined automatically. To change it:

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. In the window that opens, tap Edit widget → City.
  3. Start entering the name of the city in the search bar and choose the city from the list.
On the lock screen

Note

This feature is available for devices running iOS version 16.0 or later.

Alice

A button that activates Alice. It has no settings.

Yandex

A button that opens Yandex Browser. It has no settings.

Devices

Tapping the widget opens a smart device linked in the app, for example, Yandex Station. It has no settings.

Search bar

A search bar. It has no settings.

Smart Camera

A button that opens the Smart camera. It has no settings.

Weather (round)

The widget displays weather information with district-specific accuracy. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather (rectangular)

The widget displays weather information with district-specific accuracy. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Widgets

Displays the outside temperature, weather, and traffic. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather (above the clock)

The widget displays weather information with district-specific accuracy. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Weather and "feels like" (above the clock)

The widget displays information about the weather and the perceived temperature. You can select a city in the widget settings.

Add to screen

  1. On the device's Home screen, tap and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Widgets.
  3. In the list, choose Yandex.
  4. Choose the Yandex widget you like from the thumbnail list, tap and drag it to an empty area on the screen.

  2. In the upper-left corner, tap and choose Yandex in the list of widgets.
  3. Choose the Yandex widget you like from the thumbnail list and tap Add widget.
  1. On the lock screen, tap and hold an empty space.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Settings.
  3. Tap the area above or below the clock where the widgets will be.
  4. Choose Yandex.
  5. Select the widget by swiping left or right.
  6. Tap the selected widget.

Remove the widget from the screen

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. Tap Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

  3. Confirm the deletion.
  1. On the device's Home screen, tap Edit.
  2. Next to the widget you want to delete, tap and confirm the action.
  3. Tap Done.

Why do I have several identical widgets?

The widget is embedded in multiple Yandex mobile apps, such as Yandex Disk, Yandex Maps, Yandex Metro, Yandex Navigator, and Yandex Keyboard. It's also available as a full-fledged app for Android. This is how multiple identical widgets may appear on your device.

If necessary, delete the widgets you don't need from the screen.

Why the widget doesn't update

The most common reasons why the widget doesn't update are:

There's no internet connection

Make sure your device is connected to the internet.

Power saving mode is enabled

Note

Power saving mode is available only for Android.

In power saving mode, widgets can't update in the background.

Open the device settings and make sure power saving mode is off. It's also possible that power saving mode on your device turns on automatically when the battery is low.

You need to allow the app to run in the background

Note

Applicable only for Android devices. Depending on the device model, the path may vary.

To update, the widget needs to run in the background. To allow it to do this:

  1. Open the device settings and choose Apps → Yandex → More → Battery.
  2. On a mobile device, make sure there are no restrictions for the apps to run in the background. On the tablet, enable the Allow background activity option.
