Yandex Translate
The Yandex app automatically detects the language of the loaded page and offers to translate it into Russian or another language of your choice. On Android devices, the built-in translator recognizes the text in images and displays the translation on top of the original text.
Translating pages
To translate a page from a foreign language into Russian, tap on the page or:
- Tap the icon in the app.
- Choose Translate page.
At the top of the screen, a translation panel will appear where you can see translation progress. If you want to interrupt the translation, tap in the right part of the panel.
To return to the original page, use one of the following methods:
In the right part of the translation panel, tap .
- Tap the icon in the app.
- Choose Show original.
The page is automatically translated from a foreign language into Russian. To return to the original page, tap → Show original.
Translating words and phrases

Available only for Android devices.
The Yandex app can translate separate words or sentences on a page into Russian. To see the translation of a word or phrase, select it. A pop-up panel with the translation will appear at the top of the screen.
To view all translations of a word or phrase:
- Select them in the text.
- In the panel that appears, tap → Yandex Translate

To view the translation options, install the Yandex Translate app.
Translating images
Note
Available only for Android devices.
- Tap and hold the image.
- In the context menu, choose Translate text in image.
The translation appears on top of the original image.
To view the original image:
- Tap and hold the image.
- In the context menu, choose Show original image.
- If Automatic image translation is enabled in settings, just translate the page.
- If Automatic image translation is disabled, tap at the top of the screen on the translation panel.
To return the original text in the images, tap . To view both the page and the images in the original language, tap on the translation panel.
Note
You can also translate images outside the pages. Let's say you want to wish a Merry Christmas to your British friend. You can find a lot of greeting cards on the internet, but if your English isn't very good, you might not be certain that the recipient and the greeting are written correctly on the card. With Yandex Images, you don't have to worry about this.
Changing the translation language

To translate a page into the language you need:
- Translate the page into Russian by any convenient means.
- At the top of the page on the translation panel, select the language from the list.
Note
If automatic image translation is enabled in settings, images will also be translated into the new language when you change the translation language. If automatic image translation is disabled, tap after changing the translation language on the translation panel at the top of the screen.
Translation settings

- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- Go to Yandex Translate.
- Enable Automatic page translation.
- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- Go to Yandex Translate.
- Disable Automatic page translation.
If you want the app to translate images automatically along with the page:
- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- Go to Yandex Translate.
- Enable Automatic image translation.
If you don't want the app to translate images automatically when translating a page:
- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- Go to Yandex Translate.
- Disable Automatic image translation.
Disable translation

- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- In the Yandex Translate section, disable the Offer to translate pages option.

- In the Yandex Translate section, disable the Translate words and phrases option.
Problems with translation
Note
Translation of words and phrases is available only for Android devices.
Yandex Translate is enabled in the app by default. Make sure that you haven't disabled it manually earlier:
- On the Home screen, tap (profile icon) → App settings.
- In the Yandex Translate section, the following options must be enabled:
- Offer to translate pages.
- Automatic page translation (pages are translated into the interface language without a request from the user).
- Automatic image translation (when translating the page, the text in the images is also translated).
- Translate words and phrases.
Note
Image translation is available only for Android devices.
Websites use various technologies to display images. We're gradually learning how to process them, but we can't guarantee translation in each case. The text in the image also can't be translated if:
- The image isn't clear enough.
- The text is handwritten or cursive.
- The image is too small.
Text translation in the camera
You can use the Yandex app to translate text in a photo, ad, or road sign using the Smart Camera.
Interface language
To display the Yandex app interface in a different language, change the language of the device.
Note
Mobile device manufacturers may change the Android interface. The following instructions apply to Android without modifications.
- Open the device settings.
- Tap System → Language.
- Choose a language.
Note
If the app doesn't support the language selected in the device settings, then English will be used.
