How we get data

As not all carriers send us data, not all transport is displayed in the app.

Buses, trolleybuses, trams, and minibuses are equipped with sensors. They send transport movement data to carrier companies. Carriers send this data to us.

We receive traffic signals approximately once every 30 seconds and process them using a prediction algorithm. This allows transport labels to move smoothly around the map.

If the signal is received irregularly or is inaccurate, the data in the app may differ from the real situation.

FAQ

How do I hide or show transport icons on the map?

To see public transport on the map, tap Transport at the bottom of the screen. To hide transport icons, tap . For more information, see Find transport on the map.

The app shows a vehicle approaching a stop, but it doesn't arrive at the stop

If the transport arrival time has a green dot next to it in the stop card, this means that we receive the estimated arrival time from the carrier. In that case, traffic delays might be caused by traffic situations, such as traffic jams and accidents.
If the arrival time is highlighted in black, this is the data from the official timetable. The actual timetable may not match the official timetable.

A vehicle is definitely moving along the route but doesn't appear on the map

This sometimes happens at the first stops along the route, when the vehicle has already departed, but the placemark has not yet been added to the map.

In addition, it's possible that we don't receive signals from this vehicle.

The app shows that the vehicle is approaching, but in fact it's not

You can also write to us from the app. To do this, tap  (profile picture) → Contact us → Public transport.

There's no information about a vehicle at the first stops along the route

We receive traffic signals once every 30 seconds, which means that when a vehicle starts moving along the route, the placemark may not appear right away.

If you intend to depart from the first stop, refer to the official timetable or the time interval in the stop card.

The vehicle follows a shorter route than the one shown in the app

This can happen when:

  • The dispatcher changes the route.
  • The vehicle returns to the depot without completing the route.
The app shows two identical placemarks

You can also write to us from the app. To do this, tap  (profile picture) → Contact us → Public transport.

Total time en route differs from the sum of its segments

The app takes into account the average waiting time for transport at all stops along the route. This value isn't displayed in the details of each route, but it affects the calculation of the actual travel time.

Example

Route details show a travel time of 20 minutes. The route has public transport stops with a five-minute wait. The actual travel time will be about 25 minutes.

Travel time by public transport is less than by car

Yandex Maps takes traffic data into account when plotting car routes, but not the public transport routes.

Incorrect number of stations on a metro route

When plotting a metro route, Yandex Maps shows the number of intermediate stations only (excluding the start and end stations on your route). For example, if you're traveling from station A to station E, there are only three intermediate stations between them — B, C, and D. Please take this into account when planning routes.
