In some cities, you'll see detailed road layouts on the main screen and in **Transport** and **Navigator** modes. Zoom in on the map to see detailed road markings and lane lines. Route options vary based on how you're getting around. ## Car {#car} **Camera on the route**   : Before turns, the cursor may shift left or right to show you more of your route ahead. This works when the [North is always up](https://yandex.com/support/m-maps/en/navigation-settings.md#nord) option is disabled. **Faster route**   : Yandex Maps may suggest a faster route while driving: - To open the route window, tap **View**. - To hide the route window, tap **Not yet**. **Visual hints**   : When you move along a route, the screen displays: - Distance to destination, travel time, and estimated time of arrival. - [Traffic](jams.md) on the route. - Upcoming turn and the distance to it, as well as the next turn (if less than 2 km away). - Current speed and the speed limit for the route section. - Traffic lanes: - The traffic lanes that match your route are shown in white, while lanes outside your route appear in gray. - ![](_assets/bus-lane.svg) — bus lane, ![](_assets/tram-lane.svg) — tram lane, ![](_assets/bike-lanes.svg) — bicycle lane. Each lane is marked with a directional arrow to show where it leads. - Route alerts. {% cut "Get alerted about route features" %} - ![](_assets/railway.svg) **Railway crossings** When you move along a route or drive in **Navigator** mode, the app shows dangerous railway crossings on your route. [Voice notifications](settings-app.md#road-events) are enabled by default. At busy railway crossings, trains pass frequently. To avoid waiting, choose the option without railway crossings when plotting a route. - ![](_assets/snippet_ferry_20.svg) **Ferry crossings** The waiting time at the crossing is not taken into account when plotting a route. - ![](_assets/speed-bump.svg) - ![](_assets/toll-road.svg) **Toll road** Alerts you about the start of a toll road. - ![](_assets/snippet_border_20.svg) **Checkpoints** If there is a mandatory checkpoint on the route, the app will notify you about it. The waiting time at the checkpoint is not taken into account when plotting a route. {% endcut %} **Detailed route**   : To view the entire route or alternative routes, tap ![](_assets/route-alternative.svg). To go back to an up-close view of the current route segment, tap **Continue route**. **Turn hints**   : When you approach a difficult junction or intersection, the app shows which lane to use and when to change lanes so that you don't miss a turn. Alice repeats the instructions so that you can follow the route and observe road markings without looking at the screen. {% cut "Example" %} “In 60 meters, keep to the second right lane, then turn left”. {% endcut %} Turn hints are enabled by default. To disable them, [turn off](settings-app.md#sound-volume) voice notifications. ## By public transport {#public} Public transport routes consist of segments. Each segment is represented by a card with hints at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through the cards to see the time and distance of each segment. You can see the real-time movement of public transport on the selected route. To do this, in the upper-right corner of the screen, tap ![](_assets/public-transport-off.svg). The map will display transport icons. To hide transport icons, tap ![](_assets/public-transport-on.svg). The cards for metro sections include: - Exit numbers for transfer stations. - Numbers of cars to board for the best access to exits and transfers. ## By taxi {#taxi} During the ride, the screen displays: - The route to your destination. - The remaining travel time. - Car color, make, and registration number. - The driver's name and rating. ## On foot {#on-foot} When you're on foot, Yandex Maps show the distance and time to your destination. Stairs along your route are marked with ![](_assets/stairs.svg). Voice notifications about maneuvers are enabled by default. To disable them, tap ![](_assets/voices_route_on.png). To receive notifications in the background, enable [background navigation](https://yandex.com/support/m-maps/en/route-hints.md#background) in the app settings. ## By bike or scooter {#bicycle} When riding a bicycle or a scooter, the screen displays your speed, distance to your destination, and travel time. If you don't interact with the map or follow the marker on the route, the traveling speed isn't shown. Route sections are highlighted in different colors: - Green: Bike paths and sidewalks (marked accordingly with the ![](_assets/bike-path.svg) and ![](_assets/sidewalk.svg) icons) - Purple: Roads with traffic (marked with ![](_assets/roadway.svg)) - Gray: Closed areas (marked with ![](_assets/closed-area.svg)) The app also shows the number of stairs on the route. As you move along your route, the app notifies you of the [upcoming maneuvers](https://yandex.com/support/m-maps/en/settings-app.md#sound-volume). Voice notifications are enabled by default.
