Voice input

Use voice input to type messages faster when you're on the go.

  1. Tap and hold the right area of the space bar with the microphone icon and release it to turn on dictation mode.

  2. Dictate your text. The keyboard will take care of the punctuation marks.

  3. To finish dictation, tap the or the send message icon.

Access to microphone

When you first activate voice input, Yandex Keyboard requests permission to access the microphone. Voice input won't work without access to the microphone. Yandex doesn't use the device's microphone for other purposes.

Commands for voice input

Stop: End voice input.

Clear: Deletes all text.

Send: Sends a message if the app supports this function, for example, when chatting in a messenger or sending a text.

Search: Starts a search query if the app supports this function, for example, in the Yandex Browser search bar.

In automatic punctuation mode, Yandex Keyboard will type in the punctuation marks you dictate as words. To disable this option:

  1. Tap and hold the  icon next to the space bar and select  .

  2. Tap Gestures and Voice → Enter punctuation in speech to text.

  3. Set it to Manual.

In manual punctuation mode, you can dictate punctuation marks: full space, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, colon, ellipsis, dash, hyphen, new line, plus, minus, and semicolon.

Prohibition of offensive language

If you dictate an offensive word, Yandex Keyboard will replace it with asterisks or [censored].

To disable offensive word blocking:

  1. Tap and hold the  icon next to the space bar and select  .

  2. Go to Personalization.

  3. Disable Block offensive words.

Voice input doesn't work

If voice input doesn't work, check whether the app can access your device's microphone:

  1. Go to your device settings.

  2. Select Apps → Yandex Keyboard → Permissions.

  3. Allow the app to access your microphone and enable Run in the background and Display popup windows while running in the background.
