# External authentication methods

You can use your Facebook, Twitter, or Google account to log in to Yandex without registering or entering your password. Simply click the logo of the service you want to use at the bottom of the login form.

## Example of logging in via VK {#vk-example}

Click the ![](_assets/vk-logo.png) logo, and a new window will open that takes you through the rest of the Yandex authorization process. After you complete the steps described below, you will be able to log in to Yandex just by clicking this logo.

To log in to your Yandex account:

1. Log in to VK if you're not authenticated yet in the browser you're using.
1. Allow access to your public data if your VK profile is not yet known to Yandex.
1. Create a new Yandex account by clicking **Next**.

    You can always [enter your username and password](https://id.yandex.com/passport?mode=postregistration&create_login=1) for the new account. A username is necessary to do things like use Yandex Mail.

Your VK profile will appear on your [External accounts](https://id.yandex.com/profile/social) page, and Yandex services will display the name you use on the social network.
## FAQ {#concept3}

### Why should I get a Yandex username and password? {#create-login}

You may need a Yandex username and password to use certain services, such as Yandex Mail or Yandex Disk.

When you log in to Yandex through an external service, you are given the option to [create a Yandex username and password](https://id.yandex.com/passport?mode=postregistration&create_login=1).

### What should I do if I don't remember my password for an external account and can't log in to Yandex services? {#forgot}

Yandex can't know your password for an external account. If you forgot that password and you don't have a Yandex username, try to recover your password directly on the site of the external service.

If your external authentication method is linked to the Yandex account that you created a password for, try [restoring access](https://passport.yandex.com/restoration) in the Yandex ID settings.

### How to find the ID number that a Yandex Support representative will ask for {#social-login}

If a Yandex employee needs your username to solve a problem, but you have not yet created one, just copy the number from the [Account management](https://id.yandex.com/profile) page.

### Is it safe to log in via external services? {#securely}

When you log in to Yandex, your external profile remains secure. You don't have to share your password for an external account with Yandex: you only need to allow access to the most basic information about you.

After registering, you can stop Yandex from accessing your account at any time by deleting it from the [External accounts](https://id.yandex.com/profile/social) page.
