Mail for domain

Yandex DNS hosting and DNS editing

The domain management interface doesn't link to the DNS editor

If the domain management interface doesn't have a link to the DNS editor, it means you have the permissions of an additional administrator (not the main domain admin). The additional administrator can manage mailboxes, but doesn't have access to DNS settings.

You can access domain management, mailboxes, and DNS settings using the Yandex.Mail for Domain API. To do this, you need to get the access token from the administrator.

If you want to manage the domain with administrator rights, use the feedback form to send a message to the Yandex.Mail for Domain support service.

In the form:

  • Choose "I want to transfer management to another administrator".

  • For the reply address, enter the current additional administrator address.

How to add a site or create a subdomain

If you want a specific site to open at your domain's address, create an A-record with the site's IP address in the DNS editor:

  • In the Host field, enter “@” if you are configuring the record for the root domain.

If you are configuring a record for a subdomain, enter the first part of the subdomain name up to the first dot in Host. For example:

    • If the subdomain is bar.yourdomain.tld, enter “bar” in Host.

    • If the subdomain is foo.bar.yourdomain.com, enter “foo.bar” in Host.

  • In Type, choose “A” (or “AAAA” if the site uses the IPv6 protocol).

  • In The value of a record, set the IP address of the site.

Then repeat these steps for another A-record. If you are configuring the record for the root domain, enter “www” in Host. If you are configuring a record for a subdomain, enter “www” and the first part of the subdomain name up to the first dot in Host. For example:

  • If the subdomain is bar.yourdomain.tld, enter “www.bar” in Host.

  • If the subdomain is foo.bar.yourdomain.com, enter “www.foo.bar” in Host.

Make the other settings the same way as for the first record.

The Yandex DNS server usually copies the old A-records when connecting a domain. If this didn't happen, you can get the IP address from your hosting provider's support service, or look it up in the settings for the site itself.
