# Modes and IP addresses
## Yandex DNS operating modes {#ya-dns-mode}
All three modes are free.
- _Basic_: Fast request processing, high connection speed.
- _Safe_: Protection against infected or fraudulent sites.
- _Family_: Protection against infected or fraudulent sites and blocking of adult sites.
The speed of Yandex DNS is the same in all the three modes.

You can also [enable family search](https://yandex.com/support/search/additional-features/adult-filter.html#adult-filter__adult-filter-on) in Yandex settings. In this case, Yandex DNS will work regardless of DNS settings.

Requests are processed by our DNS server that ensures a high connection speed. Our servers are available 99.9% of the time.

Yandex checks dozens of millions of pages for malicious code every day. If it detects any suspicious activity, the page is marked as dangerous. Data on infected sites is updated several times a day.

Yandex identifies fraudulent sites purporting to scam money from you or take possession of your personal data. Yandex DNS blocks such sites: when you try to visit them, you see a warning.

Bots can steal your data. Yandex blocks the activity of botnets (computer networks that are infected with bots), interrupting their communication with the management server. The data is provided by partners.

Yandex algorithms can detect erotic and pornographic content. They do it by analyzing text, images in the document, and other factors, such as the link environment. If the site was recognized as an «adult resource», Yandex DNS blocks it. You won't be able to open the site in a browser or see it in ad units on other sites. The data about «adult resources» is updated on a regular basis.
