Syncing data between computers

Each time you copy, edit or delete a Yandex.Disk file, the changes will be replicated on the Disk server and displayed on the Disk page. If you upload files on the service page, they are automatically displayed in the “Yandex.Disk” program on your computer.

Therefore, no matter which device you use, the files you see will all be the same.

What happens if the same file is modified on different devices at the same time?

For example, let's say you create a picture called image.jpg on your computer while it isn't connected to the internet, then you upload a picture with the same name to Disk from your mobile.

Yandex.Disk will start syncing as soon as you connect your computer to the internet. Having detected two files with the same name, Disk will automatically rename one as follows: image.jpg and image(2).jpg.

Select folders to sync

The Yandex.Disk 3.0 program lets you synchronize just the files of your choice on your Disk and save disk space on the computer. For example, if you often work with the “Documents” folder, turn on synchronization for it so this folder will be stored on the computer. The rest of the folders are stored only in the cloud, but they are available also in the program.

Detailed instructions for setting up selective synchronization:

Sync status in the app

The sync status is displayed on the file or folder icon.

  • — Syncing in progress.
  • — The file or folder is stored on the computer.
  • — The folder content is partly stored on the computer.
  • — The file or folder is stored only in the cloud.
  • — The syncing status is unknown.
  • — Syncing error.

Hold your mouse over the Yandex.Disk icon to check the sync speed. The download and upload speeds will appear in a pop-up window.

How are modified files synced?

Yandex.Disk determines which part of the file has been modified and only uploads that part and not the entire file.

On how many devices can I use Yandex.Disk?

Theoretically, you can install the Yandex.Disk app and program on any number of devices, but we don't recommend doing this. If you work with the same files on different devices at the same time, there may be conflicts — files may be duplicated or lost.
