Manage your storage space

Emails and attachments in Yandex Mail now share storage with files on Yandex Disk

If your Yandex Mail emails and Yandex Disk files take up more space than is available to you, your storage will become full, and restrictions will apply in our services.

What uses your storage space

Here's what counts toward your storage quota:

These can be distributed across your storage in any proportion, as long as the total amount of space used doesn't exceed its overall capacity.

How to check your storage space

By default, users without a plan get 5 GB of storage space. If you have an active Yandex 360 plan or Yandex Plus option, you receive additional storage. To learn more about plan features and pricing, see our Help.

To see a breakdown of storage usage between Yandex Mail emails and Yandex Disk files, use the Yandex Disk mobile app or web version. The desktop version of the service only shows general information about your total storage capacity and the amount of space used.

In the Yandex Disk web version, your total storage capacity and the amount of used space are displayed in the lower-left corner. For more detailed information, go to the "Manage space" section.

Tap your avatar in the lower-left corner, then tap the storage information bar.

How to free up space

This section contains instructions that will help you free up storage space as quickly as possible.

Delete some files from Yandex Disk

You can find the files that take up the most space on the Manage space page.

To learn how to delete a file, see our Help.

Empty trash

Files deleted from Yandex Disk end up in your trash and still take up space. They will be automatically deleted in 30 days. To free up more space right away, empty the trash. How do I do this?

Delete some emails from Yandex Mail

You can find the emails that take up the most space on the With attachments page. We also recommend checking the Spam and Maillists folders.

Deleted emails end up in the Trash folder and still take up space. They will be automatically deleted in 30 days. To free up more space right away, empty the trash.

Get more storage space with Yandex 360 plans

To avoid freeing up space, you can sign up for a plan. Along with extra storage, you will get an ad-free experience and other perks. To learn more about plan features and pricing, see the Yandex 360 plans site.

Monthly file upload limit

Within a month, you can upload a limited amount of files to Yandex Disk:

  • No more than twice your Yandex Disk storage capacity if you have the Personal or Family plan.
  • No more than three times your Yandex Disk storage capacity if you have the Work plan.

The more space you have on Yandex Disk, the higher your monthly limit.

Your limit is used when you upload:

  • Files to Yandex Disk.
  • Email attachments from Yandex Mail.
  • Files from your phone using the auto‑uploads feature.
  • Files to a shared folder.

Copying and moving files within Yandex Disk as well as saving them there from a public link don't count toward your limit.

If you reach the limit, upload restrictions apply. After 30 days from your first upload, the limit resets and upload restrictions are lifted.

Example: upload limit calculation for the Personal and Family plans

Assume the storage capacity of your Yandex Disk is 5 GB. This means you can upload no more than twice your storage capacity per month — 10 GB. If you started uploading files on March 1, your monthly limit runs through March 30 and resets on March 31. Suppose you uploaded 10 GB in five days. Then from March 5 to March 30, you'll only be able to view and download files. You'll be able to upload files again starting March 31.

Example: upload limit calculation for the Work plan

Assume the storage capacity of your Yandex Disk is 3 TB. This means you can upload no more than three times your storage capacity per month — 9 TB. If you started uploading files on March 1, your monthly limit runs through March 30 and resets on March 31. Suppose you uploaded 9 TB in five days. Then from March 5 to March 30, you'll only be able to view and download files. You'll be able to upload files again starting March 31.

You can increase your limit in advance to upload files to Yandex Disk that exceed your current limit. To do this, purchase additional storage. How do I do this?

Frequently asked questions about storage space

No access to Yandex Disk. I can't log in to the mobile app.

Your access may be blocked if your files exceed your plan's capacity. To unlock Yandex Disk and regain full access, buy more storage. Yandex Disk will be unlocked within a few minutes after payment. Learn more about access restrictions and Yandex Disk locking

If you don't want to increase your Yandex Disk storage, free up space by deleting files you don't need. To do this, fill out the feedback form — your Yandex Disk access will be restored automatically. When you log in to Yandex Disk, you'll see how much time you have before it's locked again.

I can't upload a file to Yandex Disk. The message "File upload is currently unavailable. You can only view and download files" appears.

You've exceeded the limit, so file uploads are temporarily restricted. Within one month, you can upload:

  • No more than twice your Yandex Disk storage capacity if you have the Personal or Family plan.
  • No more than three times your Yandex Disk storage capacity if you have the Work plan.

After 30 days from your first upload, the limit will be reset and you'll be able to upload files to Yandex Disk again. Learn more about the file upload limit

The total size of my files on Yandex Disk is less than the usage indicator shows. What's taking up space?

Space on your Yandex Disk is taken up by files you moved to the Trash on the Yandex Disk page or deleted in the desktop program. If you're running out of space, you can empty your Trash in advance. How to do this?

It can also happen if you use different accounts in your browser and in the Yandex Disk desktop application. Make sure that the account you're using in your browser is the same account you're using in the desktop version.

Space on my Yandex Disk has decreased. What happened?

Your available storage space may have decreased because:

  • The plan that provided the space has expired. You can switch to a new plan on the Yandex 360 plans page.
  • You deactivated and activated your Yandex Plus subscription. The promotion period has ended, and 10 GB of space is no longer added to Yandex Disk as part of the Yandex Plus subscription.

If the Yandex Disk size hasn't been decreased, then you're running out of free space. How to check your free and used space on Yandex Disk
You can also check the Yandex Disk usage history to find out if the space was reduced and why.

I see the message "There may not be enough space". What does it mean?

If your Yandex Disk stores more files than it can fit (including the photos and videos from unlimited storage), it means you've run out of space.

For example, you can upload up to 5 GB to your Yandex Disk. Your uploaded files are 2 GB, and 3 GB is free space. If photos and videos from unlimited storage take more than 3 GB, you have no free space left on your Yandex Disk.

To avoid this, buy more storage or delete files you don't need.

What happens to the Yandex Disk space when the Yandex 360 plan expires?

Yandex Disk will go back to its original capacity. If you run out of free space after Yandex 360 plan is deactivated, your access to Yandex Disk will be restricted for 44 days, and then it will be blocked. Learn more about access restrictions and Yandex Disk locking

To avoid this, buy more storage or delete files you don't need.

What happens to my files in unlimited storage if I don't activate a Yandex 360 plan?

If you have enough space on your Yandex Disk, you can store files, photos, and videos there as usual.

If there are more files on your Yandex Disk than it can fit, you run out of space. After that, you can use Yandex Disk with restrictions for 44 days. For example, you can download files and folders to your computer, but you can't upload anything new to Yandex Disk. To lift the restrictions, buy more storage or delete files you don't need.

If you don't do this within 44 days, your Yandex Disk will be blocked, and you won't be able to access or unblock it yourself. To regain access, you'll need to contact support. Learn more about access restrictions and Yandex Disk locking
