Yandex.Disk 2.0 for Windows (beta)
The Yandex.Disk 2.0 experimental web app allows you to upload files to Yandex.Disk, as well as to view, download and share them. With this program, files don't take up space on your computer.
You can use Yandex.Disk 2.0 in parallel with the classic version of Yandex.Disk (there is no need to delete the latter). Only the classic version allows you to sync, take screenshots, and auto-upload photos and videos.

Install the program
Download the web app on the Yandex.Disk 2.0 (beta) page. You will see instructions on how to run the file once it starts downloading.
The icon will appear in the Windows system tray when the installation is complete.
Log in to the program
Once installed, Yandex.Disk 2.0 will ask you to enter your Yandex username and password. The icon will display in the system tray until you log in.
If you didn't log in right after you installed the app, double-click on the app icon in the system tray.
If you haven't registered on Yandex yet, click Register to sign up. Then enter your username and password in the program.
Upload files to Disk
To upload files to Yandex.Disk, you just need to copy or move them to the app window. For example, you can open a folder and drag files into it. Or you can click Upload and select files on your computer.
- Upload via drop zone
If you frequently upload new files to Yandex.Disk, drag them into the drop zone that you see on top of the system tray in the lower right corner of the screen.
To disable the drop zone, go to the Appearance menu and disable the Show drop zone on desktop menu.
You can track the file-uploading process in the Downloads section (which appears after you upload your first file or download a file using the app).
To remove all completed uploads from the list, click.
After you upload your files, they will be on the server. You can open your Disk page to make sure that all the files have been uploaded successfully.
View and edit a file
To open a file for viewing or to make changes, double-click on it in the file list. The file opens in the default program for this file type. If you want to open a file in a different program, enter that program as the default for that file type.
When you edit a file and save it, changes are automatically uploaded to Yandex.Disk. Information about the uploaded file can also be found in the Downloads section (which appears after you upload your first file or download a file using the app).
Download a file or folder
Right click on the file or folder. In the menu that appears, select Save copy to Downloads folder on computer.

Move a file or folder
Moving files and folders works the same way as on a computer: just drag and drop them to where you want.
To move an item, drag it to the appropriate place in the folder tree on the left. If you want to move an item to a subfolder, open the main folder in the tree first.
Share a file or folder
Select an item and click Copy link above the file list.
You can also right-click on an item and choose Copy link in the menu. If you click on an empty field inside the folder, then you can copy the link to that folder.
Delete a file or folder
There are several ways to delete an item:
- Drag it to the Trash icon in the folder tree on the left.
- Right-click on the item and select Delete in the menu that opens.
To empty the Trash, right-click on the Trash icon and select Empty trash.
Problems with Yandex.Disk 2.0 app
Files take up space on your computer
This means that, in addition to Yandex.Disk 2.0, you have the classic Yandex.Disk installed with syncing enabled. To solve this problem, you can either set up customized syncing in the classic program or delete the Yandex.Disk app.
I can't change the upload-folder location.
Uploaded files are automatically saved to the
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Yandex\Yandex.Disk.2\yd2_tmp\ folder. Currently, it's not possible to change the upload-folder location.
The drop zone displays at the top of every window
Currently it's not possible to change the drop zone so that it doesn't display at the top of every window. However, you can disable it using one of these methods:
- Method 1
- Click the X in the upper right corner of the drop zone.
- Method 2
- Select Appearance in the menu and disable the Show drop zone on desktop option.
