Yandex.Disk 2.0 (beta) for OS X

The Yandex.Disk 2.0 experimental program allows you to upload files to the disk, as well as view, download and share them. With this program, files don't take up space on your computer.

You can use Yandex.Disk 2.0 in parallel with the classic version of Yandex.Disk (there is no need to delete the latter). You can only sync, take screenshots, and auto-upload photos and videos with the classic version.

Restriction. “Yandex.Disk 2.0 (beta)” can only be installed on computers running OS X version 10.11 or higher (OS X El Capitan, macOS Sierra).

Installing the application

Download the app on the Yandex.Disk 2.0 (beta) page. Once the download starts, the page will display instructions on how to launch the file (the file will launch automatically if you're using Safari).

Drag the Yandex.Disk 2.0 app to the Applications folder on your computer.

After you install it, appears in the top menu bar.

Logging in to the application

You will be asked to enter your Yandex username and password the first time you launch the app. Until you log in, will display in the menu bar.

If you don't log in right away after installing it, double-click on the app icon in the menu bar.

If you still haven't registered on Yandex, click on Register to get started. Then enter the username and password in the program.

Attention. If you use two-factor authentication, you will need a one-time password, which is generated by the Yandex.Key app for logging in to the Yandex.Disk 2.0 app.

Uploading files to Disk

All you have to do to upload files to Yandex.Disk is copy or move them to the app window. For example, open a folder in the app and drag files into it. You can also click and select files on your computer.

Upload via drop zone

If you frequently upload new files to Yandex.Disk, drag them into the drop zone that you see on top of all windows in the lower-right corner of the screen.

To disable the drop zone, go to the Appearance menu and disable the Show drop zone on desktop menu.

You can track the file-uploading process in the Downloads section (which appears after you upload your first file or download a file from the program).

Note. If your internet connection is disrupted, your upload will be paused. When the connection is restored, the upload will resume.

After you upload your files, they will be on the server. You may open the Disk page to make sure that all the files have been uploaded successfully.

View and edit file

To open a file for viewing or to make changes, double-click on it in the file list. The file opens in the program that opens those type of files by default. If you want to open a file in a different program, enter that program as the default for that file type.

When you edit a file and save it, changes are automatically uploaded to Yandex.Disk. Information about the uploaded file can also be found in the Downloads section (which appears after you upload your first file or download a file from the program).

Note. Files are downloaded to a folder of temporary files and stored there for 24 hours. If you need to free up space on your computer, you can delete them: click the app icon in the menu bar and go to Settings → Open temporary files folder. Before you delete them, make sure that you save your edited files.

Download file or folder

Right click on the file or folder. In the menu that appears, select Download to computer.

You can track the file-downloading process in the Downloads section (which appears after you upload your first file or download a file from the program).

Moving files or folders

Moving files and folders is done the same way as on a computer — just drag and drop them to the desired place.

To move an item, drag it to the appropriate folder. If you want to move a file to a subfolder, hold your cursor over the folder to open it.

Sharing files or folders

Select an item and click above the file list.

You can also right-click on an item and choose Copy link in the menu. If you click on an empty field inside the folder, then you can copy the link to that folder.

Deleting files or folders

You can delete an item one of the following ways:

  • Drag it to the Trash icon in the folder tree on the left.
  • Right-click on the item and select Delete in the menu that opens.

To empty the Trash, right-click on the Trash icon and select Empty trash.
