Installation

Download the program from the Yandex.Disk page. You will see instructions on how to run the file once it starts downloading.

The icon will appear in the Windows system tray when the installation is complete.

Log in to web app

After installation, the Yandex.Disk program prompts you to enter your Yandex username and password. The icon will display in the system tray until you log in.

If you don't log in right after you install the program, double-click on the program icon in the system tray.

If you still haven't registered on Yandex, click on Register to sign up. Then enter your username and password in the program.

Attention. If you use two-factor authentication, you will need a one-time password, which is generated by the “Yandex.Key” app, to log in to Yandex.Disk.

Custom syncing

The Yandex.Disk 3.0 program lets you synchronize just the files of your choice on your Disk and save disk space on the computer. For example, if you often work with the “Documents” folder, turn on synchronization for it so this folder will be stored on the computer. The rest of the folders are stored only in the cloud, but they are available also in the program.

The sync status is displayed on the file or folder icon.

  • — Syncing in progress.
  • — The file or folder is stored on the computer.
  • — The folder content is partly stored on the computer.
  • — The file or folder is stored only in the cloud.
  • — The syncing status is unknown.
  • — Syncing error.

Store a file or folder on the computer

To turn on syncing for a files or folder, select them in the list and click the Save to computer button above the file list or from the context menu. When the file is synced with the computer, the icon changes from to . After this, you can view the file in the Disk folder: click Show in Explorer in the file's context menu.

Store a file or folder in the cloud only

To free up space on the computer, turn off syncing for a file or folder. It is removed from the computer but is still available on the Yandex.Disk page.

To do this, choose it in the list and click the Keep online only button above the file list or from the context menu. When a file or folder is removed from the computer, the icon changes from to .

Upload files to Disk

From the Disk folder in File Explorer
Open the Disk folder in File Explorer and drag or copy the files to it. This way files are saved both on the computer in the Yandex.Disk folder and in the Yandex.Disk cloud.
Tip. We recommend that you copy and not drag and drop files. If the upload fails, you will be able to try again.
From the Yandex.Disk program
Copy the files to the program window. This way files are saved directly to the Yandex.Disk cloud and aren't stored in the Yandex.Disk folder on the computer.
Tip. We recommend that you copy and not drag and drop files. If the upload fails, you will be able to try again.
Note. To save files and folders uploaded from the program both in the cloud and on the computer, right-click Yandex.Disk in the left menu and turn off the Save new files and folders online only option.
From the drop zone

If you frequently upload new files to Yandex.Disk, drag them into the drop zone that you see on top of the system tray in the lower-right corner of the screen. To turn on the drop zone:

  1. Click the Yandex.Disk icon in the system tray.
  2. Select Settings from the menu.
  3. Turn on the Show drop zone on desktop option.

You can track the file upload in the Tasks section (in the left menu of the program).

Note. If your internet connection is disrupted, your upload will be paused. When the connection is restored, the upload will resume.

To remove all completed uploads from the list, click  → Delete all completed uploads from the list.

After you upload your files, they will be on the server. You can open your Disk page to make sure that all the files have been uploaded successfully.

View and edit a file

To open a file for viewing or to make changes, double-click on it in the file list. The file opens in the default program for this file type. If you want to open a file in a different program, enter that program as the default for that file type.

When you edit a file and save it, changes are automatically uploaded to Yandex.Disk.

Download a file or folder

In the context menu of the file or folder, choose Create copy on computer.

Note. The downloaded file doesn't sync with the cloud. If you downloaded and edited a file and want to add it to Yandex.Disk, upload it manually.

You can see the file download progress in the Tasks section. When the file is downloaded, you will see a pop-up notification in the lower-right corner of the screen or in the system tray. Click the notification to open the folder with the file.

Files are downloaded to the system's “Downloads” folder.

Move a file or folder

Moving files and folders works the same way as on a computer: just drag and drop them to the place you want.

To move an item, drag it to the appropriate place in the folder tree on the left. If you want to move an item to a subfolder, open the main folder in the tree first.

Share a file or folder

Choose an item and click Copy link above the file list or from the context menu.

If you click on an empty field inside the folder, then you can copy the link to that folder.

Delete a file or folder

There are several ways to delete an item:

  • Drag it to the Trash icon in the folder tree on the left.
  • In the context menu of the file or folder, choose Move to Trash.
Attention. When you delete files in the program, they are moved to the Trash and stored there for 30 days. They are then automatically removed from the server. Once removed from the server, these files cannot be restored. To delete a file from your computer but keep it on the server, set up custom syncing.

To empty the Trash, right-click on the Trash icon and select Empty trash.

Auto-upload photos and videos

The Yandex.Disk application doesn't feature auto-upload from devices connected to the computer. But you can turn on unlimited auto-upload in the Yandex.Disk mobile app or upload the files manually.

Auto-uploaded photos and videos aren't saved in the Camera Uploads folder and aren't synced with the computer program. To make photos from the unlimited auto-upload available on the computer, turn on automatic download for them:

  1. Open the File → Settings menu.
  2. Go to the Camera Uploads tab.
  3. Turn on the Copy photos and videos to computer so they are readily accessible option.
  4. Choose where to create the Photos and videos from Yandex.Disk folder for downloaded photos and videos.
  5. Choose if you want to download all photos and videos auto-uploaded on the Disk or only the newly added ones.

Notes in Yandex.Disk

You can create notes with the Yandex.Disk program. They are automatically saved online so you won't lose them if something happens to your computer. You can also use notes on several computers at once, for example at home and at work, if you log in to the Yandex.Disk program with the same username.

Restriction. Notes are only installed on a computer with an operating system version 7 or higher (Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10).

You can use text dictation and add a to-do list, a bulleted list, or an image in the note. To keep an important note at the top of the list, pin it. Choose it and click the icon in the upper-right corner.

To open the Notes, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + B. To create a note, use Ctrl + Alt + N. To change the default shortcuts:

  1. Click the Yandex.Disk icon in the system tray.
  2. Select Settings from the menu.
  3. Go to the Notes tab.
  4. Click the field to the right of the appropriate action.
  5. Press a new key combination.
