Creating smart banners
You can create smart banners based on your site or feed.
Smart banners based on a site can be created to advertise retail goods, clothing, or pharmaceuticals, purchased by adding items to the cart. They can't be used for advertising services, real estate, cars, flight tickets, or hotel booking.
To create smart banners, complete the following steps:
- Step 1. Create a campaign

Click Add campaign. Choose Expert mode and select your ad goal: .
In the campaign settings you must enter a Metrica tag number.
- Step 2. Select a strategy

Three automatic strategies are available for smart banners. Decide what result the system should focus on and select the appropriate strategy:
- Step 3. Create a smart banner group

In the Source field, select Site and enter the domain of the site that you want to generate smart banners for. The site must meet the requirements. The Yandex robot will automatically collect data about your products.
You cannot change the data source after saving the group.
- Step 4. Set up a product filter

You can generate ads for all the pages of your site or their subset generated by filters. On the ad group editing page, click +Add filter and add up to 50 filters joined by the “OR” operator.
- Select your target audience

Select one of these options in the drop-down list:
Retargeting of website users: for users who visited your site. A Yandex Metrica tag must be installed on your website.
If the user viewed specific products, they can be shown recommended products from the feed based on the selection rules, along with the products they viewed before.
If the user visited your website (for example, the home page or product catalog) but didn't open any product pages, they can be shown personal product recommendations from the feed based on the selection rules.
Look-alike (showed interest in similar products): for users who searched for similar products online but didn't visit your site.
Maximum coverage (Retargeting + Look-alike): the default setting. Ads will be served for the users that visited your site and searched for similar products online. Ecommerce must be configured in Yandex.Metrica for this to function correctly. If ecommerce is not configured, smart banners will only be shown to users who search for similar products on the internet.
You can use bid adjustments to raise or lower the CPC when you serve ads to particular users.
- Enter a CPC or CPA

If you selected the “ Optimizing the number of clicks ” or “Optimizing the number of conversions ” strategy, you can assign the CPC or CPA in the filter settings. When Pay per conversion is enabled, CPA is optimized based on the cost per filter.
- Set up the product selection criteria

The selection criteria determine which products to add or remove from smart banner generation. The criteria are joined using the “AND” operator. Products meeting all the criteria will be selected for serving.
You can set the following product criteria:
Price: Filter products by their price.
For example, you can create ads only for products that cost more than ₽ 1000.
Product link: The product page URL contains/does not contain the specified sequence of characters.
For example, you can generate ads only for pages with products from a specific manufacturer.
Title: Contains or doesn't contain the specified character sequence.

- Step 5. Configure your smart banner layout

Under Layout settings, add a logo: a high-quality image in JPG or PNG format with dimensions from 30 × 30 to 800 × 800 pixels and no more than 100 KB in size.
- Step 6. Set the display regions

Under Display regions, select the regions whose residents you want to serve your ads to.
To create smart banners, complete the following steps:
- Step 1. Add feeds (files with data about your products or services)

You can provide information on your product offerings in the price list in a specific format — this is called a feed. To add a feed, select Library → Feeds, then click +Add feed on the page that opens.
Enter the name of the feed and select the business type which best describes your product offers. Please note that once you save a feed, it is no longer possible to change the business type. Add a link to the feed file or upload it.
Tip. If you have a lot of products (more than 500,000) in your feed, we recommend dividing it into smaller files.Read more about adding a feed.
- Step 2. Create a campaign

Click Add campaign. Choose Expert mode and select your ad goal: .
In the campaign settings you must enter a Metrica tag number.
Tip. If your feeds are designed for different regions, create a separate ad campaign for each one. More information about geotargeting settings. - Step 3. Select a strategy

In the Source field, select Feed and add one of your uploaded feeds.
You cannot change the data source after saving the group.
- Step 5. Configure filters

To generate smart banners, you can use the whole feed or individual offers that are selected using filters.
On the ad group editing page, click +Add filter and add up to 50 filters joined by the “OR” operator. Please note that when adding new filters you can manage only those settings which correspond to the selected business type.
- Step 6. Configure your smart banner layout

Under Layout settings, add a logo: a high-quality image in JPG or PNG format with dimensions from 30 × 30 to 800 × 800 pixels and no more than 100 KB in size.
- Step 7. Set the display regions

Under Display regions, select the regions whose residents you want to serve your ads to.
- Step 8. Specify the fields for titles and texts, if necessary.

By default, titles for smart banners and texts for smart ads are generated automatically.
You can specify what exact feed data to use in smart banner titles or smart ad texts. Open Advanced settings and specify the name of the feed element you want to take data from:- Create ad title from a feed field: Text from the specified element will be used for smart banner titles. When setting the element name, don't use symbols or special characters, and pay attention to capitalization (for example,
title
andTitle
are different names). - Create ad text from a feed field: Text from the specified element will be used for smart ads. If the text is longer than 81 characters, only part of it will display.
You can only enter one element. If the specified element is not in the feed, the titles or text are generated automatically.
Ads will be created automatically in the three adaptive formats: smart ads, tile, and mosaic. You can see examples in the preview section to the right of the settings.
