# Import campaigns from file or clipboard

You can import campaigns from files in tabular formats: XLSX, XLS, CSV, or TXT. For more information, see [File format and field population rules](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/advanced/file-format.md).

{% note alert %}

Starting **July 7**, you will no longer be able to create new Text & Image ads in unified performance campaigns using Direct Commander. When you import files containing new Text & Image ads, these ads will now automatically be created as combinatorial ads.

Starting **July 14**, existing Text & Image ads will begin upgrading to combinatorial ads. Learn more about the [upgrade](https://yandex.ru/support/direct/en/unified-performance-campaign/upgrade-to-comb).

{% endnote %}

## Create a new campaign {#new}

To create a new campaign or multiple campaigns based on data from a file:

1. _(for agencies only)_ On the **Clients** tab, select the client whose campaign you are creating.

1. _(manager accounts only)_ In the **Accounts** tab, select the managed account for which you are creating the campaign.

1. {% list tabs %}

    - To import from a file

      2.1. On the **Campaigns** tab, click **Import**.

      2.2. Select a file.

    - To import from clipboard

      2.1. Open the file in the appropriate program.

      2.2. Copy ads along with column headers to the clipboard (**Ctrl** + **C**, or **Cmd ⌘** + **C** on macOS).

      2.3. Click the **From clipboard** button in the **Campaigns** tab.

    {% endlist %}

1. In the **File import** or **Import from clipboard** window, check that the data has been recognized correctly. For CSV format, select the field delimiter. If necessary, you can change the assignment between the import file fields and the system fields: click on the field header and select the desired option. You can only select from the system fields that are not assigned yet. Select the dash to unassign a field.

1. Check the lines having a check mark next to them in the **Skip** column. The check mark means that the row will be skipped during file upload (for example, rows with headers and metadata are skipped automatically). If the rows contain data and you need to import them, remove the check mark. Otherwise, go to step 5.

1. Click **Create new campaign**.

1. Make sure that the campaigns are ready to be uploaded to the server (they are marked with the ![](../_assets/icon-ready.png =10x) icon).

    The ![](../_assets/icon-error.png =15x) icon means that your campaign contains errors: not all required parameters are set or values of some parameters are invalid, or ad groups contain errors. Hover over ![](../_assets/icon-error.png =15x) to find out where the error is. [Learn more](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/troubleshooting/data-error.md)

1. Check bids for keywords.

1. [Upload](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/general/upload.md) the created campaigns to the Yandex Direct server.

## Import to selected campaign {#selected}

When you import data to a selected campaign, new ad groups, ads, and keywords are created. Existing objects are not changed.

To add data from a file to a selected campaign:

1. On the **Campaigns** tab, select the campaign to add data to.

1. If the campaign data has not yet been [downloaded](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/general/download.md) from the server, click **Download** and select the **Main data (fast)** option.

1. {% list tabs %}

    - To import from a file

      3.1. On the **Campaigns** tab, click **Import**.

      3.2. Select a file.

    - To import from clipboard

      3.1. Open the file in the appropriate program.

      3.2. Copy ads along with column headers to the clipboard (**Ctrl** + **C**, or **Cmd ⌘** + **C** on macOS).

      3.3. Click the **From clipboard** button in the **Campaigns** tab.

   {% endlist %}

1. In the **File import** or **Import from clipboard** window, check that the data has been recognized correctly. For CSV format, select the field delimiter.

1. Check the lines having a check mark next to them in the **Skip** column. The check mark means that the row will be skipped during file upload (for example, rows with headers and metadata are skipped automatically). If the rows contain data and you need to import them, remove the check mark. Otherwise, go to step 6.

1. Click **Import into selected campaign**.

1. Check that the campaign is ready to be uploaded to the server, i.e., it is marked with the ![](../_assets/icon-ready.png =10x) icon.

    The ![](../_assets/icon-error.png =15x) icon indicates that the campaign's ad groups contain errors. Hover over ![](../_assets/icon-error.png =15x) to find out where the error is. [Learn more](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/troubleshooting/data-error.md)

1. Check bids for keywords.
1. [Upload](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/general/upload.md) the created campaign to the Yandex Direct server.

## Import to source campaign {#source}

Use import to the source campaign to edit your campaigns using files:

1. [Export](https://yandex.com/support/direct-commander-new/en/advanced/export.md) a campaign or multiple campaigns to a file.

    {% note alert %}

    When exporting the data, select the **Archived data** option.

    {% endnote %}

1. Make changes.

    Do not delete or edit object IDs, otherwise the existing objects will be deleted.

1. Import the changed data to the source campaigns.

Direct Commander data will be updated with the file data:

- Objects missing in the file will be deleted in Direct Commander.

- Objects edited in the file will be changed in Direct Commander. If a column is missing from the file, the applicable field in the Direct Commander objects will not change. The campaign type, ad type, currency, "Mobile ad" attribute, ad status, and keyword status are ignored.

- Objects added to the file will be added to Direct Commander.
