Change the primary domain

If you connect multiple domains to your organization, one of them will become the primary domain, and the others will be relegated to alias domains.

You can only create employee mailboxes using the primary domain. An alias domain is simply an alternative name for a primary domain. Additional addresses hosted on the alias domain are linked to the mailbox hosted on the primary domain.

If you don't have access to your company's primary domain or don't want to use it, you can transfer the primary status to another domain instead. When you change your primary domain, your organization's mailboxes will be moved to the new primary domain. All data about your mailboxes will be kept intact.

Tip. If you only wish to store email addresses on your new domain, you can simply add an alias domain without changing the primary one.

To promote a domain to the primary domain, do the following:

  1. Log in to Yandex.Connect as an administrator.
  2. If the domain you want to promote is not connected to an organization:
    1. Link the domain and confirm your ownership status.
    2. Check the domain's DNS records and make sure they are up to date and configured correctly.
  3. Go to the Yandex.Connect home page, find the Webmaster card, and click .

  4. Choose a domain you wish to set as primary.

  5. Click Set as primary on the domain settings page.
