File management features

You can edit, delete and move files on your computer if you've installed the “”Yandex.Disk web app for Windows or Mac OS. Your changes will automatically sync with the Yandex.Disk server.

You can also manage your files on the Yandex.Disk site.

All the actions that can be performed with files or folders are available in the properties panel on the Disk page. To access the properties panel, click on the file or folder icon and it will appear on the right side of the screen.

The panel also displays detailed information about the selected file or folder:
  • File name (editable)
  • File size
  • Number of downloads for that file (cannot be reset)
  • Thumbnail image (if one was selected)

Moving files and folders

You can move files and folders the same way as on a computer: just drag and drop them where you want.

To move an object to another folder, use one of these methods:

  • Drag it to the appropriate place on the folder tree to the right. The folder tree will appear as soon as you start dragging an object.

    To drag an object to a subfolder of the main folder, hover over the main folder, and you will see a tree of folders open under the main one.

  • Select an object and click  → Move on the properties panel. Select where you want to move the object and click the Move button.

Delete files and folders

To delete an object, use one of these methods:

  • Drag it to the Recycle bin on the panel to the left
  • Drag it to the Trash icon in the folder list.
  • Select an object and click the button on the properties panel.

Group operations

To manage multiple files at once, select them and all available group operations will appear on the panel to the right. To select several files in a row, click the first and last file in a range while holding down the Shift key. To select several separate files, hold down the Ctrl key for MS Windows or for Mac OS X while selecting the files.

Problems with files

I can't download a file

First of all, ensure that your internet connection speed is sufficient to download files quickly. You can check the speed of your internet connection at

Limits on intermediate servers that are used when you are on the internet can prevent files from downloading. Try disabling your proxy server if you have one. Antiviruses and firewalls can also slow down file downloads. Disable these as well and then try downloading the file again.

You'll also want to make sure that the problem isn't connected with your browser's functionality. See if switching browsers solves your problem.

The download speed is very slow

Proxy servers and additional firewalls are the most common causes of slow download speeds. We recommend temporarily disabling them when downloading files.

There are also technical requirements which limit how quickly files can download from Yandex.Disk. When the size of public files downloaded from your account is more than double the volume of your Yandex.Disk itself, then the download speed is restricted to 64 Kbit/s. This restriction will last for 24 hours, after which the download counter will be reset. To avoid problems with downloading speed, use the Save to my Disk option on the file sharing page.
