Protect: secure web surfing

Note. You can get additional information about your security status and access your security settings using the Protect toolbar.

Yandex.Browser uses its own security system, . This is the first comprehensive security system in a browser that protects you from most threats internet-based threats. It includes the following elements:

Secure connection

  • Protected Wi-Fi. In unprotected wireless networks, the browser transfers data over a special encrypted channel.
  • Protected DNS requests. The browser protects against DNS hijacking and spoofing by not letting DNS-server hackers resend users to phishing sites.
  • Protection against untrusted certificates. The browser checks the authenticity of certificates used by sites on pages loaded over HTTPS.

Secure payments

  • Protected mode. On internet banking and payment-system pages, the browser employs more security measures, using stricter HTTPS-certificate checks and disabling extensions.
  • Protect your credit cards. If you enter your card number on a suspicious website or there are problems with data encryption, Yandex.Browser will warn you that there is a security threat.

Protect passwords

  • Password manager. Store passwords to all your devices safely and conveniently on Yandex servers.
  • Password encryption. Use a master password to ensure that no one can access your password manager. Master passwords are not stored in your browser and not transmitted over the internet.

Protection against malware and malicious sites

  • Blocking dangerous webpages. The browser warns you if you try to open a page containing malware. The addresses of infected and fraudulent websites are sent to a special database that is updated several times a day and contains hundreds of thousands of links.
  • Checking files. All downloading archives and executable files are checked for malware and undesirable software. Several million unique files are checked each month.
  • Check extensions. To protect you from malware and annoying ads, your browser only allows extensions from verified sources to be installed. These extensions are regularly checked to make sure they are authentic.
  • Protecting the browser against malware. A special plug-in protects the browser components (system objects, extensions, settings) from being changed by third-party applications, and also blocks attempts to intercept messages, take screenshots, and access users’ personal information.

Protection against undesirable advertising

  • Filter out annoying ads. The browser filters out ad formats that tend to annoy users most.
  • Antishock. The browser blocks ads containing unpleasant or pornographic images and ads for malicious sites.
  • Block ads manually. Users can hide annoying ads on individual sites (such as those that block a large portion of text or redirect you to suspicious sites without your consent).
  • Manage ad impressions. Users can allow ads to display on sites and set up black and white lists.
