Protecting the browser resources

Yandex.Browser has a special module that protects the browser resources from malware attacks or other undesirable activity.

Threats handled by the browser security module

The built-in security system:

  • Protects all browser components (system objects, installed extensions, and browser settings) from being changed by other applications.
  • Protects the browser resources from the following types of threats:
    • Accessing confidential information.
    • Intercepting and altering messages (man-in-the-middle attacks).
    • Recording keystrokes.
    • Taking screenshots.
    • Removing the browser or its security modules.

There are several ways the security system handles a threat:

  • Blocking actions without notifying the user. This happens when notifications are impractical for some reason (for example, there are too many events).
  • Blocking actions and notifying the user. A message is displayed that the browser resource security module blocked an action that might affect the user.

All events are logged and sent to the Yandex server for analysis and statistics.

Event log

The event log is a table where security events are recorded.

Opening the event log
  1. Click  Settings.
  2. At the top of the page, go to the Protect tab.
  3. In the Protection from malicious programs section, go to the Event log.
Viewing event details
  1. Open the event log.
  2. Put the cursor on an event and click Details.

A window opens with the event information.

Trusted applications

Trusted applications are programs that the security module doesn't block. If you trust an application, add it to the list of trusted applications:

  1. Open the event log.
  2. Go to the Trusted applications tab and Add application. The application is added to the Trusted applications list. Any entries about blocking this program disappear from the event log.
Clearing the log

When clearing the log, only entries about blocked actions are deleted from the event log. Applications aren't removed from or added to the trusted applications list.

To completely clear the event log:

  1. Open the event log.
  2. Click Clear log.

To remove an entry from the log:

  1. Open the event log.
  2. Put the cursor on an event.
  3. Click to the right of it.
