Translating pages

Translating a page to your native language

Yandex.Browser automatically detects the language of a loaded page and opens the translation bar for foreign-language pages:

  • Click the Translate to English button to have the browser translate the text on this page to English.

  • If the browser has incorrectly detected the language on the page, it manually by clicking  Translate from another language<name of language>.

Restriction. If your browser's language is Chinese, Japanese, or Kazakh, the translation panel will not appear.

Re-translating a page

After translating a page, the user can choose a different language and translate the page again. This is useful for translating a page to a specific language other than the user's native language.

To re-translate a page:

  1. Translate the page to your native language.
  2. Click Change language<name of language>.

Disabling the page translator

If you do not want the translation bar to appear for foreign-language pages:

  1. click the icon  Settings.
  2. In the lower half of the Settings page, click Show advanced settings.
  3. In the Languages section, disable the Suggest to translate page if language differs from browser language option to turn off the page translator.

Disable translating pages from a specific language

You can also disable page translation for just a specific foreign language:

  1. Go to any page in the language for which you want to disable translation.
  2. Click  Never translate from <name of language> .
  1. click the icon  Settings.
  2. In the lower half of the Settings page, click Show advanced settings.
  3. In the Languages section, click the Language and input settings button.
  4. If the desired language is not in the list, click the Add button. In the drop-down list, select the language and click OK. The language appears in the browser's list of languages.
  5. Make sure that the option Offer to translate pages in this language is turned off for the selected language.
  6. Click Done.

If you turned off page translation for a specific language and now you want to turn it back on:

  1. click the icon  Settings.
  2. In the lower half of the Settings page, click Show advanced settings.
  3. In the Languages section, click the Language and input settings button.
  4. If the desired language is not in the list, click the Add button. In the drop-down list, select the language and click OK. The language appears in the list of languages.
  5. Turn on the option Offer to translate pages in this language.
  6. Click Done.

Translating sentences and words

  • To see translation for a word, point the mouse at it, then press and hold Shift.
  • To translate several words or sentences, select them and click the button that appears at the end of the selected text.

Disable translation of words and phrases

  1. click the icon  Settings.
  2. In the lower half of the Settings page, click Show advanced settings.
  3. In the Languages section, disable the Offer to translate words and phrases of highlighted text and Translate words by pointing cursor and clicking Shift options.
