# Location data

Websites use your location to show you the most relevant information, like the local weather, traffic info, city maps, or businesses nearby. Your location is determined by the nearest wireless access points and your device's [IP address](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address). Device location data is depersonalized: only geographic coordinates are sent. This information can't be used to identify you.

## Set your city manually {#manuelly}

<!--По этому разделу написаны фактовые ответы. Если раздел обновился, не забудьте проверить и обновить ответы в файле fact-answers.yaml.-->

{% note info %}

Your manual city selection is saved in a cookie file. The regional settings will work on your device until you change them or [delete your cookies](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/cookies.md#del-cookie).

{% endnote %}

1. Go to the [location settings](https://yandex.com/tune/geo/) page.
1. Turn off the **Automatically identify city** option.
1. Enter a city in the field and click **Save**.

If you can't save the city, check if [Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) is allowed to save [cookies](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/cookies.md#allow).

## Location in Incognito mode {#incognito}

By default, your location is determined automatically in [Incognito mode](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/incognito-mode.md), even if you entered your city manually earlier. This is because cookies are not saved in Incognito mode and any manual city selection you make is saved as a cookie.

## Location is not detected correctly {#problems}

#### The browser doesn't determine location correctly

{% cut "Remove the extension that changes the settings" %}

You might have installed an [extension](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personalization/extension.md) that changes your proxy server settings. Try disabling it:

1. Click **<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="22" height="22" viewBox="0 0 22 22" fill="none"><title>Настройки Яндекс Браузера</title><path d="M4 16.4091C4 16.0827 4.26117 15.8182 4.58333 15.8182H17.4167C17.7388 15.8182 18 16.0827 18 16.4091C18 16.7354 17.7388 17 17.4167 17H4.58333C4.26117 17 4 16.7354 4 16.4091Z" fill="currentColor"/><path d="M4 10.5C4 10.1736 4.26117 9.90909 4.58333 9.90909H17.4167C17.7388 9.90909 18 10.1736 18 10.5C18 10.8263 17.7388 11.0909 17.4167 11.0909H4.58333C4.26117 11.0909 4 10.8263 4 10.5Z" fill="currentColor"/><path d="M4 4.59091C4 4.26456 4.26117 4 4.58333 4H17.4167C17.7388 4 18 4.26456 18 4.59091C18 4.91726 17.7388 5.18182 17.4167 5.18182H4.58333C4.26117 5.18182 4 4.91726 4 4.59091Z" fill="currentColor"/></svg>**&nbsp;→ **Extensions** and turn off all extensions.

2. Restart Yandex&nbsp;Browser: close it by pressing **Ctrl**&nbsp;+ **Shift**&nbsp;+ **Q** (on Windows and Linux) or **⌘**&nbsp;+ **Q** (on macOS), then open it again.

3. [Clear your cache](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/cache-memory.md#clearing-cache) so Yandex&nbsp;Browser doesn't load a copy of the page that was saved earlier.

4. If this solves your problem, go through your extensions and turn them back on until you find the one that causes the problem. Restart Yandex Browser every time.

5. Disable this extension. You may want to let the developers know about the problem.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "Set up your location manually" %}

Your IP address may belong to a network with multiple regions. Set up your location manually:

1. Go to the [settings](https://yandex.com/tune/) page.

2. Turn off the **Automatically identify city** option.

3. Start entering the name of your city in the field.

4. In the list of suggestions that appears, select your city or town.

5. Click **Save**.

{% note info %}

Manual location settings are saved in a cookie file. If the manually selected city changes to another one, it means that Yandex Browser deleted cookies. Make sure that cookies are [enabled in the Yandex Browser settings](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/cookies.md#allow).

{% endnote %}

{% endcut %}

If the problem persists, report it to support via the [form](https://browser.yandex.com/feedback/?lang=en):

- Send a link to the page where you see the wrong city.
- Indicate what city is listed in the [settings](https://yandex.com/tune/geo/) when you click **Find me** and what your actual location is.

#### The browser doesn't determine location

It's possible that you [prevented all sites from tracking your location](https://yandex.com/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/location-information.md#deny-sites-locate) earlier.
