# Types of threats prevented by the password manager

Yandex Browser's password manager uses technical methods of protection to provide secure storage and synchronization of passwords.

**Threats prevented by the password manager**
:   - Theft of passwords as the result of hacking on the user's device.
    - Theft of passwords as the result of hacking on Yandex servers.
    - Theft of passwords when transmitting them over the network during [synchronization](https://yandex.com/support/browser/device/sync.html).
    - Attempts to spy on passwords in the browser if the owner is absent and didn't lock the computer.
    - Attempts to log in on sites using saved passwords if the owner is absent and didn't lock the computer.
    - Phishing (the password manager does not accept visual imitations and will not insert the user's credentials in a login form on a phishing site).
