# Caller ID

The caller ID can tell you who's calling if the incoming number isn't on your contact list. It will identify calls coming in from both cellular networks and messengers.

Caller ID is free.

It can't access the content of your calls and messages.

## How does it work?{#how-it-works}

Unknown numbers are run through a database that's regularly updated with [user reviews](https://yandex.com/support/browser-mobile-iphone/en/security/callerid.md#review), among other data. When you enable caller ID for the first time, the database is downloaded to your device.

By default, the database is downloaded only via Wi-Fi so that you don't spend your mobile traffic. But if you want the caller ID to be more accurate, you can allow database updates via the mobile network.

{% cut "**How to allow database updates over the mobile network**" %}

1. Tap ![](../_assets/settings-iphone-icon.png =22x) → **Caller ID** → **Settings and blocking**.
1. Enable the **Download over mobile network** option.

{% endcut %}

The numbers are also checked against the Yandex Business. If a company is found in the Yandex Business database, you can see its name when you receive the call. If Yandex Bowser can't recognize a company, it will suggest a category the call may belong to. For example, "A possible ad".

## Enabling and disabling{#turnon-turnoff}

1. Open your device settings.
1. Select **Phone** → **Call blocking & identification**.
1. Next to **Yandex**, switch the option to on or off.

{% note info %}

Setting up Caller ID enables or disables alerts for calls coming from both cellular networks and messengers.

{% endnote %}

## Leave feedback on a number{#review}

If you want to report a number or the browser incorrectly identified the call category, leave your feedback. You can do this at any time.

    - **Other advertisements**: Other advertising calls.

    Calls that meet the blocking conditions will be automatically blocked. For you, it'll look as if the call never happened.

Blocked calls won't appear in the missed calls list.

If the phone number belongs to your organization, [add it](https://yandex.ru/support/business-priority/add-company/add-org.html) to Yandex Business.

To delete the phone number from our database, contact support.

## Problems with the caller ID{#problems}

{% cut "**I can’t download the phone number database**" %}

To download the offline database, you need:

- Battery charge of 21% or higher.
- Active Wi-Fi connection.
- Free memory up to 50 MB.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**Caller ID doesn't work**" %}

Check whether the caller ID has all the necessary [permissions](#requirement) and allow the app to run in the background in the battery settings. If the problem persists, contact support. **Call Blocking & Identification** is enabled in the device settings.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**Caller ID doesn’t identify numbers**" %}

The caller ID can't identify hidden numbers. Only a mobile operator can do that.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**Caller ID doesn’t block numbers**" %}

Check if [blocking](#block) is enabled for this category of numbers.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**The caller ID window covers important information**" %}

The caller ID window may cover information on the Phone app’s screen. Tap and hold the caller ID window and drag it elsewhere. The new position will be saved for future calls.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**Why isn’t call blocking enabled by default?**" %}

We want to give users a choice: either trust **Caller ID** to automatically block certain categories of calls, or manually decline or accept calls from recognized numbers.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "**I’ve turned on blocking, but I still receive marketing calls. Why?**" %}

Some organizations (for example, banks) often use the same numbers for both advertisements and calls that are actually important to their clients. In such cases, Caller ID may show information that the call may be an advertisement, but it won't block it so as not to cause problems to clients who are expecting an important call.
