Yandex Zen

Zen is a personal recommendation service provided by Yandex. It selects news, blog posts, and other online publications that may be of interest to you. The selection is based on your browsing history and stated preferences.

  5. Turn off the recommendations feed

What is Yandex Zen?

Note. Yandex Zen is integrated in both the mobile and desktop versions of Yandex Browser. Read the Zen article in Help to find out how to set up or disable Zen in your desktop browser.

Recommended articles show up on your screen as a vertical feed. The headline of the first recommendation appears at the bottom of your screen when you open a new tab. Swipe up on the headline to view the rest of the feed.

If you want to read a recommended post, tap it in the feed to open it in a new tab.

To go back to the recommendation feed, tap the Zen link to the left of the SmartBox.

Log in and sync with other devices

Log in to your Yandex account to allow Zen to select content that interests you. Zen will then start collecting information about the websites you visit and posts you want to see in the feed. If you don't log in, Zen will recommend content without taking into account your interests and the feed will not be very useful.

If you read Zen on different devices or in different applications, log in to your Yandex account wherever you use Zen. This will allow Zen to follow your viewing history, subscriptions, and preferences from all devices. Your feed quality will significantly improve.

Note. Log in with the same account on all devices and in all apps.

To log in:

  1. Open Yandex.
  2. Tap Log in in the upper-right corner of the page.
  3. Enter your username and password. If you are not registered on Yandex, tap Register and fill out the account information.

Customize your recommendations feed

Zen analyzes what you read on the internet and adjusts the content of the recommendations feed to your interests. This takes time. If you want to adjust the feed to your interests faster:

Rate feed posts

  • If you like a post, tap the icon at the bottom of the recommendation and Zen will recommend more posts like this one.
  • If do not you like a post, tap the icon at the bottom of the recommendation and Zen will recommend fewer posts like this one.

Block channels and sources

Zen recommends posts that were created one of two ways:

  • The author created a Zen channel and posts content on it.
  • The author posts content to a different source: on their website or in an RSS feed.

If you want to block a specific channel or source so you don't get their posts in your Zen feed:

  1. Find one of their recommendation in your feed.
  2. Tap the icon in the bottom right corner of the recommendation.
  3. Tap Block source.

Subscribe to channels

  1. Open any post from a channel you are interested in.
  2. Tap the icon in the upper-right corner of the page or scroll down the page and then back up again. Tap the Subscribe button that appears.

Posts from this channel will appear in the recommendations feed more often. However, not all the channel's posts will appear in your feed, because Zen's algorithms will continue to filter them according to your interests.

To unfollow a channel:

  1. Open any post from the channel.
  2. Tap the icon in the upper-right corner of the page.

Zen will recommend this channel less often.

Edit your list of sources

Note. If you add a site to the list of ones you're interested in, it doesn't mean that you subscribed to it. When you add a site, Zen will begin showing you similar posts from other sites and also filtering out posts that may not interest you.
Add a source to your blocked list
  1. Log in to Zen using your Yandex account.
  2. Tap  → Blocked sources in the top left corner of the page.
  3. Tap the icon in the search bar.
  4. In the list that appears, tap the icon to the right of the sources you want to block. Zen will stop recommending them.

If you want to remove a source from the block list, tap the icon to the right of it. Zen will resume recommending posts from this source.

Add a source to your liked list
  1. Log in to Zen using your Yandex account.
  2. Tap   → Liked sources in the top left corner of the page.
  3. Tap the icon in the search bar.
  4. In the list that appears, tap the icon to the right of the sources you want to see in the Zen feed. Zen will recommend them more often.

If you want to remove a source from the list of your interesting sources, tap the icon to the right of it. Zen will recommend them less often.

Country and language settings for posts

The list of channels in your feed and post language will differ based on country. By default, Zen determines your country and language from your device's settings. You can change them manually:

  2. Tap  → Country and language for content in the upper-left corner of the page.
