A widget is a small element on your smartphone home screen or lock screen that allows quick access to Yandex services, weather forecasts, traffic and other information.

Widget types

Search

Yandex Browser

You can change the widget size, add new informers, or rearrange them.

Search and weather

You can change the widget size, add informers, and move them.

Yandex Weather

An hourly weather forecast and precipitation.

You can customize the background: select an image and a dark or light theme. Set the widget transparency.

The city is automatically detected by default. To change it:

  1. Under the widget on the left, tap Settings.
  2. In the Region section, disable the Detect automatically option.
  3. Tap Select manually and select the city.

Add a widget to the screen

  1. On your device home screen tap and hold an empty space.
  2. Tap Widgets.
  3. In the widget list choose Browser.
  4. Pick a Yandex widget in the thumbnail list and drag it to a free area on the screen.

Remove from the screen

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. Tap Delete.
  3. Confirm deletion.

Why do I have multiple identical widgets?

Widgets are built into many Yandex mobile apps, like Yandex.Disk and Yandex.Maps. A widget can also be installed as a separate Android app. Because of that, you may find several identical widgets on your smartphone.

You can remove the widgets you don't want.

Why is a widget not getting updated?

Here are the most common reasons why widgets might not show updated information:

No internet connection

Check if your smartphone is connected to the internet.

Power saving mode is enabled

Power saving mode prevents widgets from updating in background mode.

Go to your smartphone settings and make sure power saving mode is off (turn it off if necessary). Power saving mode may also turn on automatically when your smartphone battery is low.

Widget detects the wrong location

  1. In your smartphone settings, check that Yandex Browser is allowed to access your location. It usually asks for the permission during installation.
  2. In the browser settings, check if the location is set manually. If yes, check whether it's correct or turn on automatic detection.
