Protect: Sync passwords
You can sync passwords that you've saved in Yandex Browser on your computers, smartphones and tablets. During the syncing process, an encrypted copy of your password repository gets sent to the Yandex server and then passed on to your other synced devices. Passwords from your other devices also get added to the repository on your current smartphone.
Advantages of password syncing
- Your saved passwords will be used for autofill in login forms on all your devices.
- If your smartphone breaks, you can restore your passwords from the server.
Disabling and enabling syncing
Password syncing is turned on automatically when the syncing option is enabled.
Password syncing is turned off if syncing is fully disabled. To disable only password and card syncing:
- Tap
in the browser (if you don't see this button, press the menu button on your smartphone).
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Syncing.
- Turn off Passwords.
Password syncing conflict
If you created different master passwords on your smartphones, tablets or computers, there may be a conflict during syncing. For example, you enter one master password on your computer and a different one on your smartphone and then sync your smartphone with your computer. The browser doesn't know which master password to use to encrypt the merged vault.
To resolve the conflict:
- Tap
in the browser (if you don't see this button, press the menu button on your smartphone).
- Tap .
- Tap Passwords are not syncing.
- Enter the master password created on this smartphone.
- This opens a list of devices on which the password vault is protected by other master passwords. What you do next depends on whether you remember the master passwords you created on other devices.Attention. Tap
to the right of a device name to delete the passwords from it.
- If you don't remember the master password for a device, passwords that are stored on it can't be added to the synced password vault. The following options are available for these devices:
- If you created a backup encryption key on your device, reset your master password on it, replacing it with the master password for your current smartphone. Wait for the device data to sync.
- If you did not create a spare encryption key on the device, you will have to delete the passwords from it. To do this, tap
to the right of the device name.
- You can also disallow a syncing conflict. In this case, passwords will not be synced between your devices (the history, bookmarks, and other data will continue syncing).
- When you are sure that you remember the master password for all the remaining devices in the list, tap Merge with passwords on this device.
- Enter the password from each conflicting device one at a time.
- Tap OK in the window that opens after merging.
Passwords from all devices remaining on the list will be merged. The master password created on your current smartphone will be used to encrypt the vault.
