Translate pages and images

Yandex Browser for Mobile automatically detects the language of a loaded page. It can translate the page into English or another language of your choice. The built-in translator can also recognize text in images and show the translation on top of the original text.

Translate pages, words, and phrases

To translate a page from another language into English, tap the  icon on the page or:

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Translate page.

You can monitor the progress in the translation bar at the top of the screen. If you want to stop the translation, tap at the top right.

To go back to the page in the original language:

Tap  on the right of the translation bar.

Translate images

  1. Tap and hold the image.
  2. In the context menu, select Translate text in image.

The translation appears on top of the original image.

To see the original image:

  1. Tap and hold the image.
  2. In the context menu, select Show original image.

Change the translation language

Follow these steps to translate a page to the language of your choice:

  1. Translate the page into English the easiest way for you.
  2. In the translation bar at the top of the page, select a language from the list.
Note. If automatic image translation is enabled in the settings, images are also translated into the new target language. If automatic image translation is disabled, tap  on the translation bar at the top of the screen to translate images into the new target language.

Translate pages automatically

If you want the browser to translate pages automatically when you open them:

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Enable Automatic page translation.

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Disable Automatic page translation.
Enable automatic image translation
If you want the browser to translate images automatically along with the page:
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Enable Automatic image translation.
Disable automatic image translation
If you don't want the browser to translate images automatically when translating a page:
  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Disable Automatic image translation.

Disable translation

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Disable Offer to translate pages.

Problems with translation

The translator isn't working

The translator is enabled in the browser by default. Make sure that you have not turned off the translator manually:

  1. Tap  in the browser (if you don't see the icon, press the menu button on your smartphone).
  2. Tap Settings → Yandex Translate.
  3. Make sure that the following options are enabled:
    • Offer to translate pages.
    • Automatic page translation (you don't need to request translation: pages are automatically translated into the interface language).
    • Automatic image translation (text in images is also translated along with the entire page).
    • Translate words and phrases.
An image isn't translated

Image text can't be translated if:

  • The image isn't clear enough.
  • The text is handwritten or cursive.
  • The image is too small.
