Antishock is an extension for Yandex.Browser that blocks banner ads with unpleasant images, pornography, or advertising for websites that may offer fraudulent services.
Besides useful ads, the internet contains a lot of banner ads that are irritating, disturbing, or even dangerous. They may contain pornographic images, lead to fraudulent sites, or suggest that users download software that is infected with viruses. These type of ads cheapen the internet services they are displayed on in the eyes of users and breed distrust toward internet ads as a whole.
Yandex is constantly developing tools to improve the internet environment and protect users from malicious and/or useless content such as spam, viruses, doorway sites, fraudulent pages, and "adult" content on sites serving a general audience. For example, Yandex's search engine uses a ranking mechanism that gives preference to pages that don't contain harmful or unpleasant ads. Sites containing these types of negative banners are found in lower positions within the search results.
Antishock is yet another Yandex tool that protects users from “bad” banner ads.
Antishock considers the following types of banners to be harmful or shocking:
Banners with erotic or pornographic images or ads for "adult" sites. These types of banners are blocked on all sites other than those whose main content reflects that of the ad. Users may, however, tell Antishock to allow such advertising (see Allow erotic ads).
Banners with realistic images of various accidents, victims of violence, monsters from horror films, or startling images of organs, open wounds, or intimate body-parts displayed close up.
Banners that advertise websites related to SMS fraud. These types of banners attempt to trick the user by making promises that you will win a lottery, lose weight, or get access to a database and be able to delete your personal data. They might also offer to run a search on your family history, give you your horoscope, tell your fortune, etc.
Pop-up windows may look like social network notifications, software updates, or infection warnings from your antivirus. By clicking on them, the user may end up giving their passwords or money to hackers. Antishock also blocks banners that promise a high payout without indicating how.
Yes. If the majority of ad-network hosts contain shocking or harmful ads, Antishock may block the entire network in Yandex.Browser.
Write to Yandex.Browser support using the feedback form. Include a link to your site and the blocked banners in your message. Please also explain why you think the blocked ads are not malicious or shocking.
To block a shocking banner:
The banner will disappear and no longer display in your browser. Messages about shocking banners will be sent to Yandex; if we receive a lot of messages about a particular banner, it may be blocked for all users.
Antishock was not designed to target specific advertisers or networks; its purpose is to protect users from malicious and shocking ads. If you care about your users and offer quality content, then try to find an appropriate “white” ad network that doesn't post shocking banners.
You are free to work with all ad networks except for those that we have blocked (see lists of Ad networks blocked for pornographic content and Ad networks blocked for shocking content). Lists of blocked networks are updated regularly.
If you altered your ad-network's content, but you still see its name in the blocked list, please contact us using the feedback form.
The Antishock algorithm takes many different factors into account. Your network won't be blocked based on a few shocking banners.
If you believe that your network will be blocked by mistake, write to tech support using the feedback form.
We recommend putting the shocking advertising in a separate independent section. That way Antishock will not block any normal ads.
The Antishock algorithm very rarely finds shocking ads and banners among those served by Yandex.Direct and other major ad networks. This is primarily because ad content is automatically moderated and then selectively checked manually. If an ad network carefully moderates its ads, Antishock will not block it.
