macOS users

You're reading Help for the beta version of Yandex Browser, which isn't available for macOS.

For information on Yandex Browser for macOS, see Help for the main browser version.

Export data

There are several ways to keep your data when reinstalling the OS or transfer this data to the Yandex Browser beta version on another computer.

Through managing Yandex Browser data

Alert

If there are multiple profiles in your Yandex Browser, make sure you're logged in to your profile before transferring data. Otherwise, you might accidentally share your data (including passwords) with the owner of the profile that is active during the transfer.

You can save information to your account to access your data across all your devices and recover it when reinstalling your OS. When transferring your data, it is sent to the Yandex server via a secure channel. Passwords are stored in encrypted format. The data on the server is protected by the authorization system.

You can transfer the following data:

  1. Log in with Yandex ID and enable data sync.

  2. Select the data you want to save to your account:

    1. Click your profile picture Портрет профиляMy profile in Yandex BrowserManage data.

    2. Choose which data to save by enabling the corresponding options.

  3. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

  4. After uploading the data to the server, disable data sync to avoid possible failures when reinstalling the system.

  5. Reinstall the OS and install Yandex Browser.

  6. Enable data sync while making sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.

Note

However, you will have to restore Tableau manually. Tabs will not be restored as they were either, but you can access them on the Other devices tab.

  1. On your old device, log in with Yandex ID and enable data sync.

  2. Select the data you want to save to your account:

    1. Click your profile picture Портрет профиляMy profile in Yandex BrowserManage data.

    2. Turn on options to sync the data you need.

  3. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

  4. Install Yandex Browser on your new device.

  5. Enable data sync while making sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.

Note

However, you will have to restore Tableau manually. Tabs will not be restored as they were either, but you can access them on the Other devices tab.

Tip

If you use two Yandex IDs at the same time, we recommend creating a separate profile for your second account.

To transfer saved data from one Yandex ID to another:

  1. Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to transfer data from, and enable data sync.

  2. Wait until your data is downloaded from the server to your profile in Yandex Browser. The download can take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data.

  3. Disable data sync for this Yandex ID.

  4. Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to transfer data to, and enable data sync.

  5. Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).

Delete data from your old Yandex ID
  1. If you have data sync enabled, disable it.

  2. Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to delete data from, and enable data sync.

  3. Delete saved data.

Via your personal profile

Alert

You can't move passwords, extensions, and settings using this method. For this reason, it's better to transfer your data through managing data.

Your personal set of settings and data is stored locally on your computer in your personal profile. The profile is created automatically when Yandex Browser is installed. You can copy your profile to a new device or a reinstalled OS.

Data stored in your profile includes the following:

Note

We recommend moving passwords via a separate file because this is more secure. If you want to import passwords via your profile, be sure to create a master password, otherwise Yandex Browser will not be able to decrypt your passwords after you import them.

Yandex Browser profiles are stored in the User Data folder. We recommend importing them all at once and then deleting the ones you don't need in the settings:

  1. Close Yandex Browser: click Настройки Яндекс БраузераAdvancedClose Yandex Browser or press Ctrl + Shift + Q.

  2. In Explorer, open the C:\Users\Your account name\AppData\Local\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data folder and copy it to an external drive, for example, a USB flash drive. The AppData folder is hidden. To see it, enable hidden folder display.

  3. Install Yandex Browser on your new device or in your reinstalled OS.

  4. In Explorer, open the C:\Users\Your account name\AppData\Local\Yandex\YandexBrowser folder and paste the User Data folder from the USB flash drive into it.

  5. Launch Yandex Browser. Select the profile you need (if you moved more than one profile).

  6. Make sure the data and settings have been added to Yandex Browser. Delete the profiles you don't need.

From the stable Yandex Browser version
  1. Close Yandex Browser by clicking Настройки Яндекс БраузераAdvancedClose Yandex Browser or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Q.

  2. Install the Yandex Browser beta version on your new device or in your reinstalled OS.

  3. Close the Yandex Browser beta version by clicking Настройки Яндекс БраузераAdvancedClose Yandex Browser or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Q.

  4. Open a file manager with access to the root folder (for example, Midnight Commander).

  5. Go to the ~/.config folder.

  6. To avoid losing your data, just to be on the safe side, copy the yandex-browser folder to a location that is convenient for you.

  7. Rename the ~/.config/yandex-browser folder to ~/.config/yandex-browser-beta.

  8. Launch Yandex Browser. Select the profile you need (if you moved more than one profile). After that, the stable version of Yandex Browser will launch with an empty profile, and the beta version — with the profile you transferred.

  9. Make sure the data and settings have been added to the Yandex Browser beta version. Delete the profiles you don't need.

From the Yandex Browser beta version
  1. Close the Yandex Browser beta version by clicking Настройки Яндекс БраузераAdvancedClose Yandex Browser or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Q.

  2. Open a file manager with access to the root folder (for example, Midnight Commander).

  4. Copy the yandex-browser-beta folder to an external drive, such as a USB flash drive. It contains all Yandex Browser profiles.

  5. Install Yandex Browser on your new device or in your reinstalled OS.

  6. Open the ~/.config/yandex-browser-beta/ folder in the file manager and transfer there the contents of the folder from the external drive.

  7. Launch Yandex Browser. Select the profile you need (if you moved more than one profile).

  8. Make sure the data and settings have been added to the Yandex Browser beta version. Delete the profiles you don't need.

    6. Enter the password file and click Open.

The import will begin. When all passwords are imported, Yandex Browser will show you how many passwords have been added.
