# By device type

Use targeting by device type to serve ads that match the user’s device type and improve ad relevance. For example, you can choose to show your ads only to smartphone and tablet users, or only to desktop users.

Combine this targeting method with others to choose the best audience for your ads.

Targeting by device type is based on data from the `User-Agent` header in the ad request.

## Available device types {#types}

- Computer
- Smart TV
- Tablet
- Smartphone
- Mobile phone

Most modern phones are smartphones. A smartphone is a mobile phone with advanced features and an open operating system that supports multitasking and apps. For example, a mobile browser on a smartphone can display both mobile and desktop site versions.

Mobile phones don't have these features. They are less powerful, used mainly for calls, and support only simplified browser versions (WAP).

## Set up targeting {#settings}

Targeting by device type is disabled by default, meaning ad campaigns are displayed on all device types. To set up targeting:

   In the **Campaigns** tab, select an ad campaign or find one using the search bar.

   Next to the campaign name, click ![](../_images/kebab-2.png =15x20) → **Targeting** or select a campaign and go to **Targeting**.

1. Press **Add a targeting condition** → **By device type**.
1. Select the device types where you want to serve your ads.

   Click **Apply** and save the targeting criteria.

## Reports {#reports}

The data for each device type is updated hourly and is available at all report levels. To view the report, go to the **Reports** tab in the main menu and select **By device type**.
