# Setting up an Adfox account for monetization with Header Bidding

You can set up Header Bidding in the **Monetization** section: connect monetizers at the account and placement list level, and manage ad delivery and targeting all in one place.

{% note alert %}

Setup via campaigns and manual setup will no longer be available starting August 10, 2026:

- Campaigns and banners Header Bidding are no longer shown in the campaign list, and their parameters are unavailable. This doesn't affect reporting: historical data on Header Bidding is preserved. Previously saved reports still work.

- Connect monetizers, set up placements and targeting in the **Monetization** section — for the account, placement list, or specific placement.

- Monetizers with IDs are preserved, with IDs inheriting the previous campaigns IDs. You can find the ID in the **Monetization** section on the **Parameters** tab under the name of the monetizer.

{% endnote %}

Before setting up Header Bidding, make sure to:

- Sign a separate Header Bidding contract with each monetizer you connect.

- Create an ad unit in each monetizer's dashboard.

## Setup through the Monetization section {#monetization-section}

The setup consists of three steps: enabling the monetizer at the account level in **Monetization**, adding it to the placements, and installing the configuration script. Campaigns and banners are created automatically.

### Step 1. Connecting monetizers at the account level {#enable-account}

Go to **Monetization** from the main menu and select the **Parameters** tab. Depending on the monetizer, connect it in the appropriate list:

{% list tabs %}

- External monetizers

  The **Connecting external monetizers** list shows all available monetization platforms. Each of them shows the type of integration:
  - **Yandex Header Bidding**: Integration via Yandex's own solution.
  - **Prebid.js**: Standard open-source library for Header Bidding.

  1. Find the monetizer in the list or use the search bar (you can filter by status or type).

  1. Click ![](../_images/kebab-2.png) next to the monetizer and select:

     - **Edit**: To change the monetizer parameters.
     - **Ad platforms**: To select sites, sections, and placements where you plan to run ads.
     - **Targeting**: To set up targeting criteria:
       1. Click **Add a targeting**.
       1. In the drop-down list, select targeting criteria — such as time, frequency, or geography.
       1. Fill in the required parameters and click **Apply**.
       1. Edit the list of targeting criteria: you can add a new targeting option or remove the ones you don’t need.
     - **Delete**: To remove a monetizer.

  1. Click **Apply** to confirm your changes.

  1. Enable the option in the **Connected** column, next to the monetizer. A **Changed** status appears in the row with the monetizer, indicating the parameters have been changed but not yet saved.
  1. Click **Save** at the bottom to apply your changes.

    {% note warning %}

    Once you're done, install the [configuration script](https://yandex.com/support/adfox/en/monetization/script-setup.md) on your site — without this step, monetization won’t work.

    {% endnote %}

- Adfox Header Bidding monetizers

  1. In the **Connect monetizers for Adfox Header Bidding** list, click **Add** and specify the ID of the monetizer's account in Adfox (`ownerId`). You can find it out from the monetizer or in the monetizer's ad tag.

{% endlist %}

### Step 2. Connecting monetizers at the placement level {#add-to-platform}

{% list tabs %}

- From the placement list

  1. Go to **Monetization** from the main menu and select the **Placements** tab.
  1. Click ![](../_images/kebab-2.png) next to the placement name, then select **Add** under **Header Bidding monetizers**.
  1. Add the monetizers you want to connect. You can clear the list or click **Copy all** to quickly copy monetizers to another placement.
  1. Click **Save**.

- In the placement settings

  1. Go to **Monetization** from the main menu and select the **Placements** tab.
  1. Find and select the placement you need.
  1. Go to the **Parameters** tab.
  1. Under **Header Bidding monetizers**, add the platforms you want to connect. You can clear the list or click **Copy all** to quickly copy monetizers to another placement.
  1. Click **Save**.

{% endlist %}

{% note warning %}

If you see an exclamation mark next to a monetizer:
  - Activation requires signing a contract with this monetization platform.
  - The platform was connected earlier but isn't active. To activate the platform:
    1. Click ![](../_images/kebab-2.png) next to the monetizer and select **Ad platforms**.
    2. Select the sites, sections, and placements where you want to run ads and click **Apply**.

{% endnote %}

### Step 3. Preparing a configuration script {#script}

1. Go to **Monetization** → **HB configurator**.
1. Configure the parameters for each placement.
1. Click **Generate** and copy the script.
1. Install the script on the site, adding it to the `<head>` tag.

To learn more about installing the script, see [Creating and placing a script on the site](https://yandex.com/support/adfox/en/monetization/script-setup.md).

## Banner placement in Header Bidding {#banner-placement}

You can configure placements in the **Monetization** section on the **Parameters** tab (account-level setup) or the **Placements** tab (placement-level setup):

1. Click ![](../_images/kebab-2.png) next to the monetizer and select **Ad platforms**.
1. Select the sites, sections, and placements where you want to run ads and click **Apply**.
