Terms of public contest Segalovich Scientific Award sponsored by Yandex
The contest is organized by YANDEX, a limited liability company, Main State Registration Number (OGRN) 1027700229193, located at 16 Lev Tolstoy Street, Moscow 119021, Russia
The co-organizers of the contest are as follows:
- YandexBel, a limited liability company, TIN 191684602, located at office 707, 5 Prospekt Dzerzhinskogo, Minsk 220036, Republic of Belarus;
- Yandex.Kazakhstan, a limited liability partnership, Business Identification Number 170240015454, located at 43 Dostyk Prospekt, Almaty 050000, Kazakhstan.
The objective of the contest is to support promising early career researchers and strong scientific traditions in the IT sphere.
Timeline and place of the contest 2021
The contest will be conducted pursuant to the following time schedule:
- applications will be accepted starting from, 14 January 2021;
- applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm (Moscow time), 1 March 2021;
- short-listed applicants will be interviewed from 14 January 2021 through 30 April 2021;
- winners will be announced in spring 2021; and
- a ceremony of awarding the winners will be take place in spring 2021.
The contest will be conducted on the Internet.
By taking part in the contest, each applicant confirms that he/she has read and understood the Contest General Terms and Conditions available at https://yandex.ru/legal/competition_generalterms/, and the specific terms located at yandex.ru/scholarships. The award will be granted in the following areas:
- Machine Learning
- Computer Vision
- Natural Language Processing and Machine Translation
- Speech Recognition and Synthesis
- Information Retrieval and Data Analysis
- Or other Computer Science areas as decided by the contest committee and the award council
Terms of Participation and Awards
To apply for the award, applicants must be postgraduates, master’s program students, fourth-year bachelor students or forth—sixth specialist’s program students of public higher education institutions («HEI») or research and development institutes of Russia, Belarus or Kazakhstan enrolled on a full scholarship. Also, applicants are required to have published research papers or made conference reports published as part of the materials or programs prepared in connection with the respective conferences. Another prerequisite condition is that applicants must continue their studies in their respective HEIs next year. Students and postgraduates must apply for the award on their own.
The contest-winning students and postgraduates will receive:
- a cash award of RUB 1 000 000 (net of personal income tax) payable once until September 1, 2021;
- an opportunity to attend an international conference on artificial intelligence, such conference to be agreed with the organizers of the award and took place from September 2021 through September 2022. An amount not exceeding RUB 500 000 will be paid for the purposes of such trip;
- an invitation to complete a summer internship at Yandex;
- funds in the amount of RUB 10,000 for using the crowdsourcing platform Yandex.Toloka for a research. The author of the research must note that the data was obtained using the Yandex.Toloka, and the resulting dataset must be placed in open access on a site with open datasets of Yandex.Toloka. Funds must be used within 6 months of receiving them.
The award nominees may include academic supervisors for diploma and PhD theses that work at public HEIs or research and development institutes of Russia, Belarus or Kazakhstan, have an academic degree and plan to continue their work in their respective HEIs next year. Academic Supervisors should be nominated by students or postgraduates for their cooperation with young researchers and contribution to the scientific community development.
Academic supervisors will receive a cash award of RUB 1 000 000 (net of personal income tax) payable once until September 1, 2021.
Scientists that have published research papers in affiliation with a business entity or an HEI or an R&D institute from any country, other than Russia, Belarus or Kazakhstan, over the past two years may not take part in the contest. «Affiliation» means an entity specified by the research paper author or conference speaker as the addressee of his/her paper or report.
The members of the contest committee shall be determined by the award’s organizers and the award council.
The award is granted based on a resolution passed by the contest committee and the award council.
GENERAL CONTEST TERMS AND CONDITIONS
These Terms and Conditions ("General Terms") govern the general procedures applicable to the organization and holding of Contests by YANDEX Group (each, a "Contest"); the detailed terms and conditions of each such Contest shall be further defined by the Contest Organizer ("Specific Terms").
The following terms and definitions used herein shall have the meanings set out below, to be equally applicable to both the singular and plural forms of the defined terms:
|Specific Terms||the detailed terms and conditions applicable to the organization and holding of a particular Contest, setting out its name, Organizer, period and place, the requirements of the Assignment, the Contest participation procedures, the criteria for determination of the Contest Winners, the list of Prizes and the procedure for, and place of, distribution thereof published anywhere on the Internet, including on the Organizer's/Co-organizer's website or social media pages, special Contest web pages or other places.|
|Contest Organizer||any Yandex Group company, including any of the legal entities listed in Exhibit 8.1 (SUBSIDIARIES OF YANDEX N.V.) to the Annual Report For Foreign Private Issuers prepared in accordance with the rules of the Nasdaq stock exchange (the annual report is available to the public at https://ir.yandex/sec.cfm), and any other company within Yandex.Market B.V. Group set out in the Specific Terms.|
|Contest Coorganizer||the company named as such in the Specific Terms.|
|Participant||an individual over the age of eighteen, with full legal capacity, being a tax resident of the Russian Federation, acting on his/her behalf, who has performed the contest assignment pursuant to the requirements set out in the Specific Terms. The Specific Terms of a Contest may provide for a different definition of the Participant. Employees of the Organizer and/or its affiliates, any persons involved in the organization of the Contest and their family members may not participate in the Contest.|
|Team||a group of Participants acting on their own behalf that has performed the contest assignment pursuant to the requirements set out in the Specific Terms. Any team comprising at least one employee of the Organizer and/or its affiliates or other persons involved in the organization of the Contest or their family members may not participate in the Contest. The number of Participants within a particular Team and such Team's participation in a given Contest shall be determined based on the Specific Terms of the respective Contest.|
|Captain||the head of the Team during the Contest elected as such by the decision of the other Team Participants. The Captain shall be responsible for the Team's registration for the Contest and for other actions to be performed on behalf of the Team.|
|Participant's Registration for the Contest||declaration by a Participant of his/her intent to take part in the Contest by sending the assignment deliverables to the Organizer/Co-organizer in the manner prescribed by the Specific Terms. The Specific Terms may provide for a different definition of the Participant's Registration for the Contest.|
|Contest Committee||a list of the Organizer's employees and/or persons that are not employees of the Organizer approved by the Organizer's order for the purposes of assessing the Deliverables of the Contest Participants.|
|Assignment||the requirements for the content of the Deliverables and the procedure for transfer thereof to the Organizer as provided for in the Specific Terms.|
|Deliverables||the results of a completed Assignment delivered by the Participant/Team to the Organizer within the time limit set out in the Specific Terms.|
|Final||an interim stage of the Contest during which the Contest Committee determines the Contest Finalists. The Organizer may exclude this stage by inserting a provision to that effect in the Specific Terms of the Contest.|
|Finalist||a Participant/Team that has qualified for the final of the Contest as decided by the Contest Committee.|
|Contest Winners||Participants/Teams that have won prizes as decided by the Contest Committee and whose Deliverables are declared the best based on the criteria set out in the Assignment.|
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE CONTEST
Each Contest conducted by the Organizer pursues its socially oriented objectives set out in the Specific Terms.
3. INFORMATION ON THE CONTEST TERMS
3.1. Information on the Contest General Terms is available at https://yandex.ru/legal/competition_generalterms/.
3.2. The Organizer reserves the right to modify the General Terms in the manner provided for in Article 1058 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.
4. CONTEST PARTICIPATION PROCEDURES
4.1. Participants shall take part in the Contest in the manner and within the time frame set out in the Specific Terms.
4.2. The Organizer shall be entitled to request additional information in respect of the Contest Winners, including:
- full name;
- place of residence;
- passport details;
- year of birth;
- contact telephone number;
- bank details;
- place of work/study;
- occupation; and
- other information as provided for in the Specific Terms.
4.3. By participating in the Contest in the manner defined in the Specific Terms, each Participant gives his/her consent for the Organizer to process his/her personal data specified in the registration form and also any other personal data to be furnished by such Participant to the Organizer for the purposes of the Contest, including for the Organizer to otherwise perform any of the acts provided for in Article 3.3 of Russian Federal Law No. 152-FZ On Personal Data, dated 27 July 2006. Such consent shall be valid for Three (3) years. Finalists and Winners give their consent to the publication of their full names, photos and biographies on the Organizer's website.
4.4 If delivery of certain intellectual property (for example, texts, images, etc., hereinafter jointly – "IP") is required for the performance of an Assignment, the Participant represents that such IP is the result of his/her creative work only and that the delivery thereof does not infringe on any third party rights. If any IP has been created by a Participant with the use of intellectual property owned by third parties or if such IP contains an image of a third party, the delivery of such IP as part of the Contest means that such Participant shall have obtained all required consents and authorizations from the respective right holders for such IP to be delivered within the Contest and to be further used by the Organizer as defined in the General Terms.
4.5 IP delivery as part of the Contest means the Participant's consent to such IP being used by the Organizer within the Contest period on the basis of a non-exclusive royalty-free license by any of the following methods: reproduction, publication to the public domain via the Internet, amendment and technical processing (adaptation) of such IP for the Contest purposes, demonstration to the public, terrestrial and/or cable broadcasting.
4.6 On the date of the Contest results announcement set out in the Specific Terms, the Contest Winners shall transfer to the Organizer all exclusive rights to the Deliverables in full. The Contest Winners shall not reserve any right to use the Deliverables on their own or grant similar rights to any third parties. The Contest Winners provide their consent to: (1) the Deliverables created by them being used by the Organizer, in each case, either with or without reference to the names (pseudonyms) of the respective authors; (2) the Deliverables created by them being used under any name selected by the Organizer and under the Organizer's corporate and/or trade mark (service mark) or otherwise at the Organizer's discretion; and (3) any amendments as may be introduced to the Deliverables by the Organizer.
4.7 The exclusive rights to the Deliverables created by the Participants that have not been shortlisted as Contest Winners shall not be transferred to the Organizer.
5. WINNER DETERMINATION PROCESS
5.1. The Contest Winners shall be determined in the manner set out in the Specific Terms. Resolutions of the Contest Committee shall be reflected in the Contest Protocol ("Protocol").
6. CONTEST RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT
6.1. The Contest results shall be announced in the manner and within the time frame set out in the Specific Terms.
7.1. The Organizer or the Co-organizer shall award prizes in the manner defined in the Specific Terms.
7.2. If pursuant to the Specific Terms, the Prizes are to be awarded in cash, the respective cash amounts set out in the Specific Terms shall be net of personal income tax which shall be assessed and paid by the Organizer or the Co-organizer in accordance with Russian laws.
7.3. If pursuant to the Specific Terms, the Prizes are to be awarded in the form of income in kind with a value exceeding Four Thousand rubles (RUB 4,000), the Organizer or the Co-organizer shall assess and pay personal income tax for the Winner to the budget of the Russian Federation.
7.4. If pursuant to the Specific Terms, the Prizes are to be awarded in the form of income in kind with a value not exceeding Four Thousand rubles (RUB 4,000), no personal income tax liability arises.
7.5. The value of the Prize to be awarded in kind shall be set out in the Specific Terms.
8. PRIZE AWARDING
8.1. The Organizer/Co-organizer shall award prizes to the Winners by wire transfer of cash to the bank accounts specified by the Winners/distribution of such prizes at the location of the Organizer/distribution of such prizes at the location of the Co-organizer or otherwise as provided for in the Specific Terms.
8.2. In order to receive a prize, each Winner shall produce the following documents to the Organizer:
- a scanned copy of his/her passport or another ID;
- a scanned copy of the certificate of registration of an individual with the tax authority at the place of residence in the Russian Federation (TIN, if any);
- a scanned copy of his/her SNILS (individual insurance account number);
- consent to the Contest terms (in the form prepared by the Organizer).
9. FINAL PROVISIONS
9.1. The Contest is organized and held in, and pursuant to the laws of, the Russian Federation.
9.2. Registration by a Participant for the Contest shall constitute his/her unconditional consent to all of the General and Specific Terms of the Contest.
9.3. In any matters not regulated by the General and Specific Terms, the parties shall be guided by the effective laws of the Russian Federation.
9.4. Any dispute or controversy arising in connection with the arrangement and conduct of the Contest shall be resolved through negotiations. Any dispute not settled through negotiations shall be referred to the court at the location of the Organizer.
