Yandex supports copyright holders by helping them to find new audiences for their content and working to increase the amount of high-quality, legal content – films, TV shows, music and other media – available online. To this end, Yandex partners with copyright holders and creates video and music streaming services, alongside developing tools to effectively reduce copyright infringement on the internet.

Yandex was among the initiators of a mechanism for protecting copyright holders – the Memorandum of Cooperation for Protecting Exclusive Rights, which was signed by Yandex and a number of major IT companies and copyright holders in autumn 2018. This Memorandum stipulated creation of a register of web pages potentially violating someone’s copyright. Continually updated by copyright holders, this register lets Yandex quickly remove links to such pages from its search results.

Going forward, the Memorandum signatories will seek to consolidate its provisions at the legislative level.
