Nikola Tesla Museum
Belgrade · Museum

Yesterday
Museum celebrating the life and achievements of Nikola Telsa. 800 Dina per person, cash only. No card or euro. Tours start on the hour, every hour from 10am. Tours are mostly in English, but some in Serbian. Queue outside the building about 20-30 minutes before the tour. The tour starts with video about Tesla. The video is in English. The museum has memorabilia from his life, such as clothes. His ashes are in a metal ball, so the museum is also his mausoleum. Tesla was clearly a true genius and a real creator/inventor. His legacy is worth us everyday. The "Battle of the currents" is discussed. Edison promoted DC which was clearly the wrong solution and we all use AC today. Nikola Tesla must be "turning in his grave" knowing that Elon Musk named a car brand after him. Unfortunately history is replete with examples of loudmouth charlatans who take credit for the inventions of others. Marconi (claimed to invent radio - he didn't), Thomas Edison (claimed lightbulb), Elon Musk, Steve Jobs etc Like Edwin Howard Armstrong (FM radio) Tesla's later life was a little tragic. A must visit for anyone who is interested in history and science.

A very historical Monastry. Worth to research the history. There is a gift shop selling rose juice, jam and wine. The rose juice is very good. Take a large bottle and fill with the cold water from the spring

The museum of Serbia is located in Republic Square. The history of Serbia is too complex. A guide would be needed to explain.

An example of Yugoslav architecture. Reasonably well maintained. There are a few restaurants around the area. This is a bus terminus.

Good value for money and a very good restaurant. There are many animals including geese, donkeys, horses, dogs and cats. At the rear of the hotel is a river that is the border between Serbia and Bosnia. The river is good to swim in, but is very swift. Inexperienced swimmers can easily be swept away. There is a lagoon suitable for children and beginner swimmers. The accommodation itself is very basic but adequate. Food 8/10 Environment 9/10 Friendly atmosphere and staff 10/10 Accommodation 4/10 (adequate, but basic) Many of the Serbian staff can speak Russian but almost no English. When speaking Russian I was asked "Ваша бабушка была русской?" With breakfast included for two people the total was 12,000 Dina for two nights. Excellent place for children. There is a black dog that is very friendly. It will follow you to your cabin in the evening and then stand guard in front of the door for many hours.

International CREDIT card is needed. A debit card does not allow you to rent without buying extra insurance that costs 47 EURO per day. Rented i30 Hyundai for around 20 EURO per day without full insurance. The cars are older and have a lot of wear and tear, which can be a good thing as a brand new car with zero damage will show any small stone chips etc. LukOil accepted my international VISA card. I had heard that petrol stations that were Russian connected were under sanctions and VISA would not work. Price for 95 octane was 207 Serbian Dina. Some places offer for 195. You pay for tools yourself. Cash or card. Don't lose the ticket they give you at the entrance to the highway. Some parts of Serbia have many unsealed roads. Google maps will send you on these roads. Be careful. Best to select no unsealed roads.

A memorial to the Serbian soldiers who fought the Austro Hungarian army in WW1 at this location. Many soldiers were lost and were buried here. At the entrance there is a detailed information board in Serbian and English with the full history. The history of Serbia seems to be replete with foreign invasions.

Originally built in 1317 this women's monastery has a cool spring with very good quality water. It is recommended to bring a large water bottle and fill it in the spring. There is a gift shop in the church and a free information leaflet in English, Russian, Hungarian, German and French.
