We visited this museum on our first ever visit to St Petersburg in 2016 and it was a truly moving experience. We had heard the museum had been renovated and so came back to see the changes. They have spent a huge amount of time and effort here expanding the exhibition but retained the flow and profound sense of resilience during these terrible events - and ultimately them being overcome. The audio guide will give you the greatest understanding of the events but there are electronic panels with additional information as well. Well worth a visit and would visit again when next in the city.

Очень важный музей. После музеев дворцов, свидетельствующих о великолепии и монументальности Российской Империи, именно здесь понимаешь, что Россия - это не Романовы или Рюрики, а великий русский народ, который не сломить никакими испытаниями, никакими лишениями. Ленинград - это символ духа всей России, несгибаемой и возрождающейся. Кусочек черного хлеба, суп из столярного клея с сыромятным ремнем, и седьмая симфония Шостаковича!
