Definitely worth a visit at least once in a lifetime! The incredible number of lakes and waterfalls is impressive. The landscaping is at the highest level, it does not interfere with enjoying nature. Everything is perfectly organized, there are tourist routes, boats and buses.
This is the most beautiful national park I've been to. There are many waterfalls of different heights and beauty, lakes with clear clear water, it seemed like a few days that I was here, although I kind of climbed everything. There is a hotel here, you can stay for a couple of days. A wedding ceremony is held under a waterfall. They take a boat ride on the lake. This is the place you want to go back to
Plitvice Lakes is a national park in Croatia, as well as an amazing geological and hydrological phenomenon. The park is located in the Litsko-Senka and Karlovac districts.
The lakes were declared a national park on April 8, 1949. It is the largest, oldest and most popular Croatian park. It is a chain of 16 large and small crystal blue lakes located in mountainous areas. These lakes receive water from numerous rivers and streams, and are interconnected by numerous cascades and waterfalls. One of the features of the park is the travertine barriers, which have been formed for ten thousand years. Due to its special geographical and ecological location, the park is rich in biodiversity. Huge forests, exceptional lakes and waterfalls, special flora and fauna, clean mountain air, picturesque places and many other factors made it possible to include this park in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
The lakes are located on the border of two climatic zones. For the most part, it is temperate mountainous and seaside. In the Plitvice lakes in summer, the water temperature can reach 25 degrees. In winter, the lakes freeze over, creating an incredibly beautiful picture. The temperature of the springs feeding the lakes is usually below 10 degrees.
The average height of the territory of the Plitvice Lakes is 600 meters above sea level. The lowest point of the park is 367 meters at the Koran Bridge, and the highest is 1,297 meters at the top of the mountain. The National park consists of 16 lakes, which gradually follow each other down to a distance of 5,460 meters. The lakes are divided into two types — upper and lower.
The Plitvice Lakes are located in a region of karst rocks. A characteristic feature of these rocks is their fragility and porosity, mainly limestone and dolomite. This leads to various geomorphological phenomena: sinkholes, karst fields, bays, craters, cracks, caves, etc.
