Metadata — system information about data in a database describing their structure, properties, and use (including, without limitation, table names and schemas, field names and types, indexes and constraints, versions, creation/modification timestamps, connection parameters, statistics and query execution plans, operation logs, and access rights), provided that the metadata do not contain the content of the database records themselves.

Data Sources (“Sources”) — a connection through which Metadata are uploaded. This connection stores information about the database or other service from which Metadata are uploaded, as well as authentication data.

Domain — a group of Metadata. Domains enable grouping of Metadata to meet workflow needs (for example, by the Metadata’s belonging to a specific company department or business line). A subdomain may be created for each Domain for more granular grouping of Metadata.

Term — concepts used to label data by their semantic meaning (for example, “revenue”, “expenses”, etc.). For each Term, you may specify its synonym or create a child Term for more granular labeling of Metadata.

Tags — labels used to label data by their types (for example, sensitive data, table characteristics, etc.). The same set of Metadata or an element therein may be assigned several tags, including from different Classifications.

Classifications — a group of Tags used for labeling Metadata.
