Yandex Examines Search Interests

Internet, May 14, 2009. Yandex launches an information service tracking changes in search patterns of web users. To learn which events or things are gaining popularity in a certain region, please, visit interes.yandex.ru.

Yandex.Interests unveils monthly ratings of search topics that have received the most attention from online audience. Thus, in April 2009, the Russian search interests’ rating was topped by three holidays (Easter, May Day, Victory Day) and two new movies (Fast and Furious 4 and Taras Bulba). The service allows tracking changes in public interest for this or that topic and compares user interests in different regions of Russia. Detailed information about April’s top search topics is available at: http://interes.yandex.ru/review.xml?country=russia (in Russian).

"Ten years ago we would release “NINI-tales”, reports on Volatility of Internet Audience Interest (in Russian). Back then, the Runet audience was unrepresentatively small and its interests were often exotic,” says Elena Kolmanovskaya, Yandex’s Chief Editor. “Today, it’s the other way around: tens of millions are online and topics interesting to them represent interests of the whole population”.

Information about trends in search topics provided on Yandex.Interests covers the period from November 2008 to April 2009. The next update of the current rating is due next month, in June 2009.
