Personal Photo Maps on Yandex

Internet, November 20, 2008. Yandex launches the new service for creating personal photo maps. Now, in addition to publishing photos in the Internet, Yandex.Fotki (Yandex.Photos) users can also pinpoint where exactly their pictures were taken. A user photo map is accessible by clicking the link “On the map” on a user personal webpage at Yandex.Fotki.

It will take a user just one mouse movement to link a picture with the map. User-generated photo maps are available for everyone through users’ Yandex.Fotki accounts. You can view a full personal photomap as well as limit it to a specific user album (like “Turkey” or “Olive Garden”) or a specific category (like “sunsets” or “critters”). Using the Yandex.Maps search feature, a user can quickly view the location, be it a country or even a specific address.

“Now, any photographer can create an illustrated map of his home town or a map of other places in the world he ever traveled to,” states Ivan Matveev, Head of the Yandex.Fotki service, “In fact, we give our users an opportunity to present their own vision of the world.”

The new service is built using the Yandex.Maps API toolkit unveiled last week.

Yandex.Fotki is the Yandex photo hosting service launched in spring 2007. Currently, the service is hosting over 26 million photos. According to TNS Group, its monthly audience is approximately 3 million users.
