Yandex's New Data Center

Moscow, September 12, 2007. Yandex launched a new data center with 3 thousand servers. Company's fourth 2 MW powered data center takes the area of 2,000 square meters.

"Instead of expanding our operating data centers, we prefer to build new ones and connect them to the infrastructure. Yandex's data centers have to be autonomous, interchangeable, and geographically separated, which reinforces the system's resistance to external actions," says Mikhail Fadeev, head of operations department at Yandex.

The new system features uninterruptible power supplies, diesel power generators, and cutting-edge precision cooling systems, which allow to reduce power consumption by up to 10 kW per rack. The system is a part of Moscow optic ring, which connects other data centers and offices of Yandex, as well as M9 and M10, the regular ISP traffic exchange points.
