Spot Traffic Jams in Moscow Right from Your Car

Internet, March 22, 2007. Yandex announces launch of mobile version of traffic jam map. Now the owners of Pocket PC can access current information about traffic on the roads of Moscow via ”traffic jams” bookmark at mobile Yandex.Maps, or via a separate link. The use of service is free of charge; data on traffic jams is being renewed every 5 minutes.

Mobile version of traffic jam map offers its users the same range of functions as its ”desktop” analogue. One can zoom-in, zoom-out, and move the map by selecting a certain fragment of it. To learn about road congestion in a particular district of the city, or in a definite street, one can find the right map fragment by using the search option. Users can also become traffic information resource. Using the feedback form, drivers, and even pedestrians, can send first-hand information about traffic jam location, its direction, mean speed.

”This is the first service that provides authorized information about road traffic in Moscow free of charge, in a Pocket PC- friendly format,” says Maria Laufer, manager of Yandex.Maps service, ”Now, Pocket PC owners can learn about what they can expect on the road without leaving their car. We only do not recommend doing this right while driving”.

Moscow traffic jam map was launched at Yandex in May 2006, since then it has become an integral part of life for many drivers. Daily, over 200,000 Moskovites, before they set out on a trip, check with the data from traffic jam map at Yandex. Traffic information is provided by SMIlink information agency.
